I tried the next minefield version of FF and it broke my Add-ons yet again. Why can't Mozilla stop playing with the add-on interface so that it breaks each version?

Not ever the compatibility reporter add-on would get them all working!

There's no way there'd be a full version upgrade within three months of the previous one.

this was announced sometime ago. And they've stuck to this road map for some time.

Yes but they have announced they are going to change to a more Chrome style release schedule from now on.

I hope Firefox doesn't start becoming desperate in it's battle with Chrome.

It's already nicking features from Chrome - ones which I like, I have to admit - but there'll be no point if it becomes a clone of Chrome.

3 'new' versions this year? why?

I can't imagine we'll see any major advancements, just tweaks. so why not just wait?

It's almost like they've decided to replace the major updates with 'new' releases so instead of FF4.1, FF4.2 etc .., we'll now have V5, V6, V7 and so on.

Pointless move IMO

They have to catch up with the numbers of the other browsers as v4 is well behind IE9, Opera11, Chrome12 etc...

this may not be a million miles form the truth.

they should switch to a different scheme like windows did, and then didn't, you know FireFox 2013, of course they could release chrome 2014. but you always need to stay 2 to 3 years ahead of the current year.

then you have to change the name a bit like The Fast and The Furious did, and then didn't. or Rambo. they could call it Fire, or FoxFire. They could flip the logo.

This is all way more important that fixing the memory leak.

This is insane, FF4 only just out, dates for 5, 6 and 7, which I'm sure they'll miss, but that's not the point.

At the moment Firefox 3.5, 3.6 and 4.0 are all receiving security updates (3.0 and earlier are now at end of life)

Firefox versions 3.5.19, 3.6.17 and 4.0.1 are all expected around April 26th according to Wikipedia (info may be subject to change, I guess)

Updates already? Wow. I have to be honest though, I had secretly switched to using Opera a while back... when I upgraded, er, "upgraded" to Firefox 4, I was quite surprised to see just how much it looked like Opera -- except with an orange bar instead of a red one!

Mozilla have said they want to take the Google approach and release multiple versions per year. Each version would incorporate updates and fixes, rather than releasing an update for the current one.

I read on The Register a couple of months ago that Mozilla wanted to have Firefox 7 released by the end of the year.

Looks like Mozilla want to release a new version every 18 weeks, except for Firefox 5 which will have a 13-week development cycle. Story (PC Mag USA)

They also plan to introduce a new phase between nightly and beta, so it's now Nightly / Aurora / Beta / Release versions, Aurora being the new one ... "will be a nightly update that splits the difference between the chaos of the company's Mozilla-central build (or Nightly build), and its Beta build."

Sounds chaotic, much like what happens to any competition when faced with Google

I installed version 4 for a few days.
It was sluggish on start up & loading pages.
I uninstalled & went to version 3.6.16
The speed improvent was AMAZING !!!!
