Been digging for more information on intended release dates.

Firefox 5 : intended release dates vary between June 21st-30th. Is due in Beta around May 17th.
Firefox 6 : intended release date appears to be August 16th
Firefox 7 : intended release date appears to be September 27th

The Aurora builds for Firefox 5 (labelled 4.2a1pre) can be found here, although there is unlikely to be any major change to the user interface until Firefox 6. The version number should change from 4.2 to 5 at the time of beta 1.

Bugger number 5, I've gone back to 3.6.13. Ff 4 was a bloody disaster.

Firefox Future Releases page is now offering Firefox 5 Aurora, US version.

As it is pre-beta, there is an element of risk involved in running the new version, ie it could be quite buggy. Am also not sure how often Aurora will be refreshed.

(edit) Filename/version is firefox-5.0a2.en-US.win32.installer.exe

Who really gives a toss about version numbers? They're being used as little more than a marketing gimmick.
The next major release version number of my preferred internet browser is going to be 2.1. Do I care that
it's several numbers behind IE and Chrome? Nope, not in the slightest, since it'll still have pretty much
all the same "under the hood" gubbins as the latest version of Firefox.

And the browser is?? Or is that a secret?

Could be SeaMonkey

It is indeed SeaMonkey ... something of a niche product, developed by a community of volunteers.
Not officially a Mozilla product, but it has the full backing and support of the Mozilla Foundation.
Essentially, it's what the former Mozilla Application Suite would've been if the powers that be
at mozilla.org hadn't put their full weight behind the Pheonix/Firebird/Firefox project.

None of this nonsense of hiding certain elements of the GUI by default for the sake of it either!

If it is no better than 4, then I suggest they not bother.,

Why are they so focused on version numbers? They don't sell the program and I'm not sure where their revenue comes from. They really think users care more about a W7/Chrome UI more than memory and speed issues, and playing ball with addons? It's going like another resource hog I don't use - Open Office or whatever name it goes by nowadays.

From my own perspective, I have to say that Sea Monkey looks very tired and dated to me but I will hastily go on to say that browsers are, in my experience, a very personal thing. At the end of the day, if Sea Monkey does it for you, then who am I or anyone else to argue with that!

People worries about the look of software too much. Sure some things are important and a GUI can make or break software. Look at Microsoft with their silly Ribbon system on Office, which they now want to add to the next version of Windows. But somethings don't matter. There was and still is nothing wrong with the old look of Firefox.

I use Vegas for video editing, it have not changed in looks for a while, in fact I think it still looks the same than the first one. I would be well annoyed if sony started to muck around with the GUI, because I know know how it works and where stuff is.

I use Iron/chrome as my browser, not because of it looks, in fact I am not fond of this minimal look to be honest, but because at the moment is is the best browser out there in speed and reliability, in my opinion.

Firefox 5 Beta 2 is now out - Download. Release notes.

Firefox 3.5 has now reached end of its development cycle, ie 3.5.19 is the final version from that tree. Firefox 3.6.18 expected June 21st.

Firefox 4.0.2 release date not announced yet, 4.0.1 was released at the end of April so end of May would be a good guess for 4.0.2.

FF4 is slow to start.
I get a lot of crashes
Pages slow to load
Unless you change the theme it now looks like Chrome
Tabs are now on top. Why make this change ?
Yes I know you can move tabs
There are obviously other situations, which explains all the betas etc coming out in an effort to fix them

Here on my machine:
Slow to start - No
Crashes - Never
Pages slow to Load - No
Look like Chrome - Change the theme
Tabs on top - Right click next to URL bar and untick tabs on top
Other situations - In view of above would you care to elaborate.

That's those arguments dealt with.

Because life doesn't stand still for us with get up and go. Things get more and more streamlined as time goes by.

I'm running FF4 on both Ubuntu and Windows 7. In Windows I agree it does crash a fair bit, in Ubuntu it's rock solid. Pages are blindingly fast loading in Ubuntu and also damn quick in Windows 7.

I think Firefox 4 is the best browser yet, and once they stop it crashing in Windows I'll be even happier. Thankfully I use Linux more often so it doesn't affect me too much.

FF 6.0 alpha 1 was also due out today, not sure if it is on schedule.

So 4 is released (now 4.0.1) and undergoing fixes when required, 5 is in beta, and 6 could be in alpha by the end of the day.

We live in interesting times.
