It was done then backed out for a hole new approach to Re-create AutoFill for fx5.
I don't think that poster was referring to AutoFill, but rather how Firefox completes internet seaches from the URL bar.

e.g. Type "BBC sport" into the bar and press enter, Firefox searches Google in the background and takes you directly to the 'I'm feeling lucky' result. This was the default behaviour in FF3.6, whereas FF4 takes you to the search results instead.

The thing is plugins can use their own web services to do anything they like and when making a HTTP request from a browser session will have all the cookies with it. How can you protect against that?
But the difference is cookie tracking is meant to be off in private browsing mode, but in this addons case it still sent data assigned to the same id as you have in non private browsing mode to a central server owned by Reality Check Network Corp in the US for every page visited.

Can someone please post a link to a reliable FF3 download site.

I restored my system back to its factory settings, downloaded FF4 and have spent hours trying to import my favourites.

I'm just fed up with the whole thing, and all the download sites I've looked at don't seem to have FF3.

In FF4 it's Bookmarks > Show all bookmarks > import and back up button. presuming you had a back up before you reset windows back to factory reset.

FF5 is now available The links they have used on the page link to version 4 when you click them but if you copy the link text and change the version number from 4.0 to 5.0 it is valid and the download will start.

I am running it now.

And changing the link text from US to GB to get the British version works as well.

It seems to load quicker and pages seem to load quicker as well.

And that is the one big problem with Firefox, every time Mozilla brings out a major version of Firefox, half of the addons don't work.

Not had that problem with Iron, all Chrome add ons/extensions will still work with even the latest update.

Use this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...orter/?src=api

I have 99% of my add-on working in versions up to 7.0a1

All my add ons are working except for Trusteer Rapport. The toolbar icon for that has disappeared and reinstalling it doesn't bring it back.

Had to add extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0 to the about config to get my addons to work but other than that no problems so far. It's also kept the theme and custom visual settings intact during the upgrade so it looks no different to FF3.

Firefox testers should also add:

extensions.checkCompatibility.aurora
extensions.checkCompatibility.nightly

To firefox's config, both boolean with a value of false.

I should not have to do that. if Mozilla want to stay where they are and stop Chrome, they need to make sure that add ons are compatible with ner versions of their browser.

If Google can do it with chrome, then should Mozilla do it with Firefox.

I know Chrome uses a different system, which is why some add ons like ghostery is not as good on Chrome as it is on firefox, but people don't look at it that way.

Have been reading press reports suggesting that although Firefox 5 is more stable and efficient than 4, and there are improvements to the rendering engine, there are not that many new user features, so people could install it and still think they are on FF4. Am currently on FF4 myself, will not bother trying FF5 until it is released.

Absolutely. In fact from what I'm reading from those who are already trying 7.0a1, there are no visible user changes even at that stage. So, like you, I willupdate only when the official versions come along. Boring!

I have been using Firefox 5 beta 7 for several days. Yes it looks identical to 4. However it starts up in a fraction of the time and opens links much quicker. The only downside is some problems with Add-ons. I have got around this with the add-on compatibilty checker and Nightly tester Tools. I can now use all the add-ons I want to.

What a total joke of a numbering system. This should be FF 4.1 surely?

With FF increasingly emulating the looks and behaviour of Chrome, is there actually any point in staying with FF any more? May as well dump it for what is aspires to be and be done.

Why dump it just because of a change in the version numbering. Doesn't change the browser itself. What would you change to? Chrome, which has the same principle of version numbers anyway.
