Unusually painless transition with only 2 incompatible add-ons but, then again, not much in the way of obvious change.

Are the add-on not working or is it just FF's stupid add-on checking that is failing.

I had 2 add-ons fail but after a tweak I got them back and they work fully

They do work if I have add-on compatibility checking disabled but I'm not sure what are the potential ramifications of running FF that way.

Stupid is about right.
I've installed again just out of curiosity.
All my add-ons, except ABP and NoScript were incompatible
Opened a new tab to post here and when I flicked back to check my facts, all but one were suddenly available if I restarted. The remaining one was suddenly OK when I tried to uninstall it
Not good enough Mozilla. I shouldn't have to wonder what on earth has happened. It should be completely glitch free!

As a beta tester I always run that way and have yet to find any issues.

Mine just says 5.0, it will only update the stable version to 5.0, if you are running a beta it will get the latest beta version.

That's what I'll do then, thanks.

again the same old problem with firefox, update the browser and add ons fail. it is a wonder the people who write the add ons don't get fed up of changing them just to work with e latest version of Firefox.

it could not be worse, FF4 was awful, it took ages to start up and sometimes it took ages before it displayed a page, firefox 3.5 is quicker.

The add-on installers have a min/max version number in them of the FF version the add-on has been tested for, just because the add-on has not been tried on a version of FF does not mean it will not work.

Switching off the compatibility checking will force add-on to load.

Since picking up the ADD-ON Compatibility checker as you have suggested before, has got around most of my add-on Issues. All the ones I use work using that add-on.
Thanks
P.S. Noise is anti Firefox or anything BT. He needs to open his mind up to other things.

The add-ons that disabled when updating to V5 are now working on my computer. I just had to add a couple of lines in the config file and it is now totally disabled the add-on compatibility checker.

So where do I find the option to disable compatibility checking? There is no direct option, and I couldn't find anything in about:config.

Another annoyance is all the versions of the Java Console that build up without the option to delete the old ones, and that they are left enabled until you disable them manually. (I did see somewhere once how to get rid of the old versions, but I have forgotten. In any case, there should be an easier way.)

Install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...orter/?src=api

Then to about:config add: extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0

Boolean with the value False

Thanks. I didn't need to add that entry to about:config, though. Avast! Webrep just started working again by itself.

What amused me was that the compatibility add-on is by Mozilla, yet I got a warning dialog telling me to "install add-ons only from authors you trust", with the author shown as "not verified". You'd think that Mozilla would know how to sign their own software!

Doesn't the add-on Compatibility checker add this line, along with lines for all other versions? Or is that the "Nightly Tester Tools"?

I am confused. Not difficult to do that Whatever most add-ons work. At least the ones I use.

right you have to way to remove the old one's
make a new profile or remove jave plug file
i would try the 2rd one first
all you need to do is uninstall the latest one then do this C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
then delete the file named npdeployJava1.dll

but before you do the above uninstall firefox first
the put it back on you pc after remove that file.

No it isn't. It may look the same to you, but there are a lot of changes under the hood. Look at the change log on the website if you don't believe me.

Absolutely. Why does anybody think that the people at Mozilla or anywhere else for that matter, would bring out a new version of their software if there were no differences?
