Troughton, the rest are mere pretenders to the throne

So surely the question should be "Who is you favourite Doctor of those that you have seen ?"”

I agree with this I do think though that D.T done extremely well with the material given even if i was sometimes well... shite, he was great in the role its just a shame that his Doctor started off very happy and upbeat and by the time he regnerated it was some huge epic blubberfest which reallydidn't suit him. Hopefully Moffat will still be onboard when Smith leaves and give him an exit that suits 11's character (he should go out fighting and upbeat rather than crying).

The Tenth Doctor is the best. No question. He's definitely the best. No use posting on here to tell me it's just my opinion. It is my opinion, but it is the right one. :

I grew up with the Fourth Doctor, and he will always be the best to me.

Why is it that the current Doctor is always the best according to most people?

Peter Davison and Chris Eccleston.

Tom Baker was the one I grew up with, so he's my favourite.

I have watched since Pertwee but its Tom Baker for me.
However, had I been around when Troughton, was Doctor then it would have been him, he is truly superb.

Sylvester, of course.

He has the highest proportion of great stories of any Doctor, and managed to re-introduce some mystery to the character while wearing a silly jumper.

Tom Baker and David Tennant are a perfect tie - I would probably go for Baker in the end, simply because he's the Doctor I grew up with. Although Tennant is sexier.

Who is the best Doctor? Affirmative.

Seriously though, Matt Smith because he's bloody all of them, innit?

I did enjoy Tennant his first three years but got well sick of him during the last specials.

The 4th Doctor encapsulated (not all the time of course) what the Doctor is to me. You can say that about all of the others as well, for me I just think his Doctor got it! Honourable mentions for many of the others also though.

"Who is the best doctor?" Why is there a question mark? Let me fix it..."Who is the best doctor." Yes. Agreed. Strangelove was a hoot though.

It's got to be Tom for me. Seven formative years in his company I suppose. But he was bloomin' good and rarely missed a beat (admittedly from the point of view of someone who on first watch had no idea he was a nutjob with strained relations with cast & crew). Troughton is probably really the best one but bad luck for him I've only seen him on repeats, VHS and DVD, so the daft sentimentality wins out and I say Tom without blinking.

I'm toying with the idea of not having a favourite. I know it's a legal requirement and part of the British citizenship test to know your favourite, but I thought I'd try it as a thought experiment.

Between Matt Smith and Patrick Troughton for me. I'd probably give the edge to Troughton for now but with a few more series under his belt Matt could overtake him.

There's a novel thought! I'm not sure it can be done. Let us know how the experiment works out.

Although another epic series from Smith may see him jump to the lead

It's a brilliant fact of life that every Doctor is somebody's favourite.

Smith is good, but he's not Troughton! I think Smith may be a close second for me though.

Agreed. It's fantastic! Different strokes make for interesting discussion.

I'm always chuffed when someone likes 6 or 7 best, (even though they are, of course, wrong - see my previous post ) because I perceive them (perhaps wrongly) as being the least popular.

I love 6 and 7 was my doctor.

However, for me whoever I watch is my favourite doctor (I know boring!!). The only doctor I haven't completely taken to, but only because I haven't watched many of his stories, is 5 (I still love him). And although I like 8, I would have needed to see more stories to kind of ... make my mind up.

Otherwise, I always marvel how much I like each doctor in their respective stories.
