The issue being raised with Tesco resulted in a phonecall from their customer care team. They said they would raise the issue with their headoffice.
Well done Barnard. Having received no support for the 500 Gb Grundig equivalent, with it's several and varied problems over the past many months, that is exactly the level of support that I expect to receive this time. So if you can stop just one person from wasting their money on a PVR that will no longer perform even it's most basic task, more power to you elbow. My own particular heap of c**p has gone back into it's box, just waiting until the wife's PC goes out of warranty. Might as well use the hard drive for something useful.

Sadly CE drives (consumer electronics - assuming it has a CE drive) are not really suitable for PC data storage as they lack the inbuilt data integrity checking of PC designs. Should be OK for another pvr though
It seems Maplin will only take it forward if I've bought the machine from them.

I think that leaves little doubt concerning possible updates.
