Talking of predictable song choices,
http://www.whatnottosing.com/ has a great article this week about songs featured on the show before, basically concluding that the most successful contestants tend to
avoid songs previously sung on the programme. David Cook (for example) only ever sung songs new to the show, except when forced to on "Judges' Pick" night.
Conversely, Jacob is yet to perform a "new" song, and only 1 out of 6 of Pia's songs was new to the show... on top of which, the average age of songs being sung on the show is the highest it's been for a few seasons, something like 33 years old (twice the age of the youngest contestant!), so they're hardly pushing the envelope...
