HTC Flyer - Android 3.0 tablet

Carphone Warehouse have a pre-order up for HTC Flyer Android tablet for £599.99. The Flyer comes with both 3G and wi-fi connections and available from early May.

Someone's taking the piss, right? £600? Have HTC learnt nothing from Samsung??? Makes the Motorola Xoom seem like a bargain! When you can buy the Galaxy Tab for £299 and the Advent Vega for £199, who would buy this?!

Looks good, but ridiculously expensive.

I would be hesitant at £300, let alone £600!

But it has a unique selling point...............

It comes with a stylus

Mind you looks like its a digital one so you can draw and write even on a capacitive screen so you don't need to hold it like a todler or cover the part of the screen your hand is touching.

Still way overpriced to allow mobile networks to seel with a contract and look a bargain

This totally depends on the use case. For normal web browsing and stuff, a finger might be fine (provided you don't mind fingerprints all over, and manage to hit small links and buttons all right).

For special applications such as drawing applications (e.g. Autodesk Sketchbook), a stylus would be much better.

I use a Notionink Adam, which does have a capacitive screen and 'finger support, but often wish I could use a stylus as an alternative input tool. If I had to chose between finger or stylus, I am no longer sure if finger is really such a great idea. My previous tablet requires a stylus and it's great in that regard; the stylus never bothered me.

You can now pick up the 16GB WiFi + 3G version for £249.99 from Dixons/Currys. The 16GB WiFi version is only £199.99 - and it comes with Android 3.2.1 now.

An upgrade to Android 4.0 is highly probable too, since the device is only 6 months old.

Don't go betting money on it getting an upgrade to ICS. To many Android devices are left behind even just a few months after release and with it being discounted now HTC may not have the incentive to spend time and money releasing an update to ICS.

Obviously few people are taking up the £35 a month for 24 month deals that these RRPs are aimed at.
They might start to fly at £180

add my 2p

first off I know very little about Tabs
However I have an HTC desire phone and my wife has a SG2 and have been thinking about getting one

yesterday I went into various phone shops and had a play with a few and the HTC Flyer was rather sluggish in comparison to the newer Samsung models

and must say I was considering the flyer but after trying it along side the Samsungs I was rather disappointed with how sluggish it was
when i pressed an app it was like clicking the shutter on an older compact camera where you click and wait a second before anything happened

I know its a lot cheaper now than the much newer samsungs but after yesterdays hands on - it made my mind up that I would have to spend a bit more as the Lag on it spoilt what other wise looks a nice TAB

I won't bother with the flyer, HTC have a good name in phones but they missed the mark with the flyer
