With an album that's full of self written,Self played, energising, catchy, exciting rock songs.
It seems like the pendulum has swung considering the foos and their album are the polar opposite of the overweight, ginger foghorn. |

Went to throw it away at first but have kept it in the sleeve. It's a real return to form for the Foos, (although not sure why 'These Days' is getting so much praise in the reviews I've seen as it's probably my least favourite track) Butch Vig has done a great job with this, far better than Echoes, Silence... Has 'Rope' been released as a single yet? I don't follow the charts anymore but would be interested to know how this single does. |

I'm not surprised you didn't know it had been released as 'Rope' bombed. Which is surprising as some previous FF singles have done pretty good. But guitar music is out at the moment (certainly in the singles market). Even Arctic Monkeys don't look like they will trouble the Top 10 with their new single (but like The Foos should get number 1 with the album).

At the moment it seems impossible to think of a guitar based track getting to number one in the singles chart any time soon, its tempting to say it might never happen again but thats obviuously an exageration.
The music industry has changed so much recently though, and broadly guitar bands for a whole number of reasons tend to be album artists these days. Similarly guitar music has a much more fragmated fan base than ever before. Hundreds of niche markets rather than "blockbuster" acts like Adele. I don't think anyone needs to worry about that though, the singles chart is just one part of the music business. I think we've all moved on from thinking its the defining indication of the musical tastes of the country. |

It could be said that the last rock song that got to number is I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor or maybe When The Sun Goes Down, although Brianstorm got to #2. There seems to be a pattern emerging here, lol.

If I had to name a weak track I would say 'Back and Forth'. Even the weak tracks are good tracks. |

I suppose anything other than the overweight, ginger foghorn would be classed as unsuccessful to you. |

The last would be Rage Against The Machine as christmas number one (2009). That was a bit of an odd situation though, so before that it was Kings of Leon all the way back in 2008 with sex on fire. To be honest though, rock tracks were only occasional number 1's in the 2000's having a quick skim over say 1 in 10 at the most, and most of them were Oasis tracks. Lets not get carried away though, the late 90's were an even more barren time for rock number 1's. Working back from the year 2000 the closest thing you get to a rock number 1 is the Rembrants "i'll be there for you" in 1995 and a smatering of Oasis tracks in 1995. Anyway, I cannot justify this any longer. I'm going to go and read about the penalties for income tax evasion. Hurrah! |

Even Grohl and some harder rockers (Qotsa for one) accept that Adele is very talented. And rockin in her own way. I was at a Greg Dulli (he was the only guy thats not Grohl that played on the Foo's debut) gig last month, and he covered Adele. And whats being overweight and ginger have to do with it? You really suck, man. |
