Seriously. I'm not gonna try and insult it, because as a TV show I can see why people would like it. But as actual, serious music? It's totally lost on me. I have yet to hear a song from Glee where you can't physically hear the autotune turned up so far that it sucks any emotion from the vocal. People listening to the CDs and actually saying they're good is just baffling to me, it doesn't even sound like they put any effort into the production in any way. They just go 'sing crap, we'll turn the autotune up to 1000 and stick it over a rubbish karaoke backing' and somehow people like that?

I must be getting old.

Edit: http://www.gleeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1600 Seems the actual fans of the show even agree, how strange.

Can I just ask, have you actually watched the show? And if so, what episode?

No, hence why I did not say anything about the TV show. I can totally see why people might like a TV show about a glee club, I just don't get how people can try and genuinely defend the music when it's released, taking sales away from actual music.

I used to hate it but having watched a few episodes I am more tolerant about the songs. I still skip some of them (especially the soppy ballads), but I have downloaded some.

I suggest a watch.

I don't think watching the show would change the fact that this:

Is not music in any sense of the word. His voice even sounds like a computer.

To be honest, I like their covers because they're usually really energetic and just fun.

Thriller/Heads Will Roll is genius. (IMO anyway).

Have you listened to their original songs they've wrote? (well not ACTUALLY them, but shh that's what we're told;D)

They're called 'Loser Like me' and 'Get it Right'
Now if you ask me, i can't hear any autotune on 'Get it Right'

The songs are emptier than musical songs or even disney songs sometimes.

I have seen more than a handful of episodes the plot is ok (some plots I'd rather fix). I get why kids flock to it like masses but some of these kids thinks these glee artists are the original singers of some songs because the covers are over five years old and they don't remember the song.

That, in itself. Is a travesty.

I've heard some of the songs and I can't stand them, they're just terrible covers. The original songs sound a lot better than any Glee cover version.

I enjoy the songs, even though many of them are largely not my style. I'm into dance, R&B etc, but the songs sometimes fit the story well, even if I don't like them. I've downloaded about 3-4 of the songs (for free), but I never seem to play them. I enjoy the songs in the episode but after I don't really have much interest in them.

I don't understand the autotune though, they can all sing (fairly) well live.

Yeah there's no need for it. Well I've seen on youtube some performances by them and Mercedes and Rachel can sing great live, but Finn not so much. I've heard that they originally cast him because he had the right look, so the voice came second.

Most of the actors of the show are all fully trained broadway stars, so your argument for them putting autotune over crap voices is invalid.

I like the show, and most of the stars have pretty good voices IMO. The songs themselves are great within the context of the show, but I do generally prefer originals except when they put a totally different spin on a song (like the Will/Holly version of Kiss) or their mash ups (Thriller/Heads Will Roll was amazing). Those are the only times I download them really.

I don't know how old you are but don't you remember this series of record releases Top of the Pops (record series)

The format is nothing new.
All a bit tacky really but alot of tweenies / kids have no real concept of what that means. It's all about having a accessable, identifiable product for young people who have a low attention span.

I don't let it bother me so much but what did anger me was the idiot creator who called Caleb Followhill and Dave Grohl 'f***ing idiots' because they didn't want their music to be used.

Rest assured mr grohl put him in his place and he's now 'aplogised'

Please don't think that it's because you're old! I'm under 20 and I think that the music is rubbish. I don't understand how something so obviously autotuned makes it way into the charts, unless all of the TV show fans buy all of the tracks?

I love Glee

Some of the covers are absolutely brilliant, Thriller/Heads Will Roll was fantastic! As was their version of Sing last week. Although it's fair to say that others aren't so great.

The show does contain some incredible singers and actors though. The girl who plays Mercedes in fantastic!

The females are definitely stronger than the males. Actually, it's just Cory Monteith who puts the boys down. Sorry.

Chord is fabulous though.

they are not meant to better than the originals and ryan murphy has already stated that the songs are being sung as a fans point of view and not meant to be anything special just to be what they are, like when you do karaoke you just sing the song and thats it a fan of the song
