U2 Smash Box Office Gross Record
Irish rockers U2 have claimed the crown of most successful tour after their extended 360° outing surpassed the previous box office gross record set by The Rolling Stones.
Bono and co’s global extravaganza has now been on the road nearly two years and despite still having more than 25 stadium shows to play before the curtain comes down, it has now raked in more than the £341 million ($558m) gross that the Stones’ A Bigger Bang tour amassed during its globe trotting exploits from 2005-2007. U2’s 360° tour began in Barcelona in June 2009 and ends this July at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival in Canada but not before the band have taken a weekend out to headline Glastonbury Festival in June. The final gross figure for the tour has been estimated at $700m but with hundreds of trucks transporting stages and arguably the biggest production ever to hit the road, the actual bottom line for promoters Live Nation will be somewhat lower. Nevertheless, tour producer and promoter Arthus Fogel said, “These numbers are staggering, a fantastic result. An in-the-round transportable stadium production is something that the touring industry has been trying to figure out for some time. The extra capacity that the U2 360° creates also allows for a large number, several thousand in fact, of low priced tickets at every show.” Indeed, by the end of July close to seven million people will have seen the band on the 360° tour. Band manager Paul McGuinness added, “That dollar figure for the gross looks enormous! Of course I can’t tell you what the net is, but I can tell you that the band spend enormous sums on production for their audience.” |

I'm not surprised. U2 are incredible live! The songs, the stage, the playing and not to mention Bono's voice. It's unreal!

U2 is a rock band, the band are entertainers not bankers or government workers who wrecked Ireland's economy with improper conduct and failed ideas BTW, U2, probably more than any other Irish group, have brought a hell of a lot of money into Ireland over the years.Where do you think fans spend their money? Hotels, restaurants, car rentals, shops, airlines etc all benefited from U2 gigs. Also, I know plenty of people who have visited Ireland solely because of U2. Ireland lowered the tax rates to encourage economic growth to Ireland from abroad and that worked well for a while for a lot of people.Holland employed the same incentives and U2 took advantage of that, as they had a right to.If Bono had wasted his cash on limos and extravagances instead of campaigning for Africa then U2's taxes wouldn't even be an issue |

![]() Also, in reference to your bit about Africa... his charity recently came under fire because something like less than 2% of all the money made actually went to the cause. http://www.metro.co.uk/news/841666-b...totalling-9-6m http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandsty...elopment-goals But, anyway, I guess congrats to them that they can still sell out stadium tours so many times over and over again. I still think Bono is a turd, though

Could the businessmen who ruined Ireland's economy not help the country recoup the lost revenue? They were responsible after all
