Yes, Very Best Of Vol.1

There's a Vol.2 as well with lesser known songs.

Nearing the end now, Dumb Blonde. She's certainly not dumb, a very shrewd businesswoman.

I didn't care much for that GH to be honest, it completely avoided all her later (and best) work, I guess due to different record labels.
It's a great place to start but I'd highly recommend to anyone buying this as their first taste of Dolly to download one of her 3 blue-grass albums or Backwoods Barbie as well.

Better Get to Livin', Shinola, Jesus and Gravity, and the title track are pretty amazing.

I always get quite annoyed when people call 'I Will Always Love You' Whitney's song. Don't get me wrong, before she married that loser, Whitney was an amazing singer but the original is just much more heart-wrenching IMO. I bet there are millions of fans of the Whitney version who have no idea Dolly wrote it.

And 'Jolene' has been a favourite of my youngest son since he was 7! He's 19 now, and a 6 foot 3, 15 stone amateur boxer and still has no qualms about telling anyone it's still one of his favourite song!

PS Has she still got her own theme park? Dollywood?

Dolly was excellent on daybreak, when asked about 'IWALY' she went something like ''Look- Whitney made me a HELL OF A LATTA MONEH' when she released I will always love you-it wasn't a bad version was it? (joking)..it was enough to keep me in some decent cheap wigs that's fo sure'!

Love her!

She said on ITV Daybreak that she made "a lot" but when they tried to push her to say how much of course she didn't say.

Certainly not. I'm fearing i'm becoming quite a Dolly fan, I love her haha.

I never knew she declined Elvis to sing 'I will always love you' either! She said it was no hard feelings but something to do with if she accepted it then the song would then be his and she really wanted to keep that song for herself (this was back in the 70s I guess when things were much tighter than these days).

I never knew that either until this morning. I've been a fan since Jolene reached the top 10 here in 1976, her and Tammy Wynette. Wish I'd seen one or both live though.

I know very little about Dolly's discography and history but I do know the classics such as 'IWALY' and 'Jolene', she's so fun and also...very cool. Fair enough I doubt she'd have a chart topping single like Adele for example (in today's generation I mean) but she's so likeable that it wouldn't be impossible either. Got a lot of respect for her. I like her lots!

I'll have a look for that DVD next time I'm in HMV. Is it good?

"I will always love you" was a song she wrote for Porter Wagner, it was a goodbye song for him, as he helped her early in her career. Dollys version is beautifully understated. Whitneys version is perfectly acceptable, but Dollys has THE EMO!

I love 9 to 5, it's very much an 'of it's time' sort of film but it's great fun.

I love Dolly! Got up early this morning to watch her on Daybreak and Lorraine, she seems so down to earth in the interviews, especially for someone so famous

Speaking of Dolly, and I apologise for the cheeky plug, I covered "Jolene" for my youtube channel if anyone's interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqRU51Bjowo

It's funny you should mention Mr Wagoner and his connection to the song because I was watching this today

I dont like old style Country and Western but with 42 albums would guess I could find a few things I like.

I do like Jolene but I think everyone likes that song almost by default.

A little off-topic in a Dolly thread but you ought to have a listen to Absolute Torch and Twang by K D Lang. It's old style country, I suppose, but given a modern twist. And it's bloody fantastic!
