DVD players/recorders without digital co-ax output

I have noticed that quite a few DVD players/recorders I'm thinking of buying dont have digital or optical outputs, as I use a dedicated AV amp with digital inputs what do I stand to lose if I buy a player/recorder without the digital outputs?

Sound quality is superb with my current set of Sony DVD/Kenwood AV/Tannoy fronts, Mordaunt Short centre and something or other rears.

Is DTS only transmitted through digital cable or will good old analogue phonos suffice?

I dont use a sub BTW, as the Tannoys supply lots of oomph in the bass dept.

DTS only via digital. or possibly some dvd players with 5 phonos.

Dolby 5.1 can be downmixed to prologic by most dvd players.

But in my experiance nearly all dvd players have digital out. Which ones do you have in mind???

I havent any one particular model in mind but either they dont advertise the fact they have digital outputs or they just dont have them.
