Identifying Locked Mobile / Unlocking
I currently have a Nokia 6220 (Classic) that a friend kindly gave me. He is on a contract with 3 and it was his old contract phone. It has the 3 logo just below the screen and on the back of the phone, under the camera. I don't have a contract so got a 3 PAYG sim. However, I don't find 3 to be good value on PAYG and don't use the phone enough to get value out of a contract.
As a Virgin Media customer, I can save some money on their monthly and PAYG mobile deals. However, as I have never tried the phone on a different sim, I do not know if it will be compatible with sims from a different network, the branding on the phone and fact it was received as part of a contract make me suspect it is locked to 3, is this likely to be the case? If the phone is indeed locked, is there anyway I can unlock it to use it on another network e.g. VM? Are there any guides available for unlocking a phone or does it have to be done at a mobile phone shop. Assuming the latter how much would I pay for a mobile phone unlock? |
