How damp? It should only be very lightly damp and then you finish off with a clean dry cloth.

For most day to day grime plain tap water is all you should need.
I've used just water on computer touch screen monitors at work that can get way dirtier than any TV set without any problems. What I have also used are these... http://cpc.farnell.com/servisol/6100...100/dp/SA01774 They seem to clean pretty well and don't streak much either. |

I use deionised/distilled water (from Halfords, motor, DIY & hardware stores) on a cotton wool ball so it's just damp and then I clean the screen. Unlike tap water, deionised/distilled water doesn't contain loads of mineral salts that dry and cause the screen streaks - Good luck! |

You did it the right way...Purchasing anything other than a microfibre cloth is a waste of cash....Only needs a slightly damp cloth then wiped off straight away with a clean dry one. Never failed to clean beautifully on Laptops, monitors and my LCD Tv's...
If you get a really bad patch for some reason, use Vodka instead of water.....
