Is there such a thing available on the market? The reason I ask is my HDMI connections are perfect from my HD+ recorder to the TV but the scart connections between my DVD player and the TV produce a poor picture. I don't watch DVDs very often so was thinking if there is such an adapter available I could simply unplug the HDMI cable from the HD+ player/recorder and plug this cable into the adapter on the DVD player to input directly into the TV for playback of DVDs.

The DVD player and HD+ player are not connected to each other - I have tried looping through but makes no difference to the DVD's playback quality.

Help!

Is it a decent quality, well built SCART lead (not necessarily expensive) with each wire individually screened?

Are you connecting from the TV SCART (AV1) of the DVD player to the AV1 SCART of the TV?

Is the DVD set to output RGB video? Is the TV set to receive RGB video?

You cannot expect the picture to be as good as that from the HD PVR but it should be comparable to or better than the picture you get from the any of the SD channels from the TV's internal tuner.

There are boxes that convert SCART to HDMI but you could get a DVD player with HDMI out for much the same money, or even cheaper in some cases.

For example

DVD

Converter

One thing to note. If the picture quality problems are due to the player being inherently naff then converting SCART to HDMI will make not one bit of difference. The pictures will be just as naff. In fact you might find that simply using a better quality lead and ensuring that both DVD and TV are set to RGB video mode will improve things.

And if it is a duff cable and you reuse it to plug up the converter you will still get duff pictures. Simply converting to HDMI will not improve a poor source. The output of the converter can only be as good as the source.
