Alexandra Burke...
Whilst at work during the week an A-Burke song came on, which led to a discussion about The X Factor, i made the bold statement that I thought she was the best thing to come out of the show (what is everyone elses view??) and was wondering why she had not been big in America?
Her songs seem very commercial and would suit an American audience and yet she has not had a hit over there yet?? |

Personally I think Rebecca Ferguson will be the best artist to come out of X Factor, and she's certainly far away my favourite contestant they've ever had and IMO the most talented.
BUT: Yes, I agree that out of the current batch Alexandra is the best of the lot. I think she's still planning on cracking America but don't trust me on that! I find Leona incredibly bland and pretty much all the rest are forgettable. She has weird success rates. I would have thought Broken Heels would be her biggest hit, it strikes me as her catchiest and most fun track but it was her least successful single off her first album sadly. On the whole she's doing really well though, and if she's already tried America I'm sure she'll try again. This is SyCo we're talking about!

Get the feeling that her popularity is starting to fade a bit.Perhaps this is due to some of the comments on this site though which isn't totally representative.Last single was a bit of a disaster really (pop career wise).Bubblegum pop stars usually have the shortest shelf life anyway, unless they produce something different.

i think alexandra is good. to be fair she`s not had the best of songs. now that they have `banned` leona doing ballads. where does that leave alexandra?
it is strange that nothing has been released in the states. they seem to love RedOne tracks over there. for me, alexandra was the most deserving winner in a x factor final. her duet with beyonce and her version of hallelujah was just brilliant! |

To be fair that's only one song. She's had 5 top 10s and 3 number 1s, it's a bit soon to write her off!

All Night Long probably did better than Broken Heels because it was remixed more its single release than BH was, with a Pitbull rap bit |

![]() By no one's standards could it be said she's failing, her album produced 6 singles, all of which hit the top 20 and 3 of which got to Number 1, it was an enormous success and she's just done an arena tour. If her second album builds on what's been established she'll continue to do well now she's well known and has a big fanbase. That's why Leona's taken a downturn, her second album was just more of the same. |

Alexandra is the best thing to come from X-Factor, by far. Best performer, and for me the best vocalist. Wonderful tone, lots of power and very versatile. Probably the best "all-round" popstar in the UK right now.
Her first album campaign was highly succesful, but I don't think she's peaked at all. If anything, I think she could be the Will Young of the franchise, and keep increasing in sales and popularity for her next few records (Will did very well on his first album, but did better on follow-up records). I think Alex did very well to establish herself away from the "X-Factor" brand by releasing several succesful singles throughout last year, without promotion from the show. She could bring out a new single at anytime of the year, and it'd be expected to do well, because she's already done it. It is a very competitive market though. Female artists now dominate the pop landscape. There's always a new one around the corner. In Alex's favor. she may be the most talented of the lot, so only the strongest will survive, but she's also hamstrug by an ineffectual and short-termist lable in Syco. I think another major lable could give Alexandra the investment and marketing to be the biggest popstar in the UK....But Syco are always cutting corners, and it's obvious As for the original question, Alex hasn't done anything in America, but she's had no singles released or promoted there. Syco/Simon Cowell is uncomfortable launching his artists in America without a big TV platform. He used to use American Idol a lot, but I suspect once they knew he was leaving, he no longer had much power to get his artists a spot. I basically think Alex's American launch was postponed to coincide with X=Factor USA...it's the sort of platform Cowell would want to launch her with. Cheryl Cole also pretty much delayed any potential music release of hers, till she could get on the show (likely as a Judge). Maybe Cowell also saw how JLS went over to America thinking all the little girls in the States would love them and their music, and basically had to come back as flops in the US. JLS got carried away with their UK success and went to America far too quickly and paid the price. It's probably a lot smarter for Alex to have waited, honed her performance skills and maybe even get better songs, so America see's the very best version of her. |

The only disappointment was the performance of The Silence, which in hindsight, was far too old a single to release and the single version was indistinguishable from the album version. It should have been the 2nd single, or been completely shelved for a new song from the re0release. |

Boxfresh has summed up my feelings basically.
I think Alex (and Leona) are the two most talented contestants yet and I love their voices and style. Alexandra has such an amazing voice and Overcome was such a strong debut it still amazes me!! I went to see her on tour and she was just amazing- the voice , the dancing, the crowd interaction was just spot on. I can't wait to hear her new music. |
