No surprises are needed when FOX announces their upfront next week. Maybe the surprises will come by the timeslot FOX puts the shows in.

Anyways, The Chicago Code is cancelled too by FOX. So far, 2010-11 rookie shows are just not making a break this year.

This is going to be the third consecutive week with no drama on BBC1 in a 9pm weekday slot. Maybe they shouldn't have given quite so much drama to BBC2.
The drama for BBC2 was specifically commisioned for that channel, its not like it was made for BBC1 and then just given to BBC2 as a leftover. Only Munich I feel would have attracted an audience deemed satisfactory on BBC1 anyway. And if you can get BBC1 on a TV then you can get BBC2 aswell, if someone doesnt watch something because its on BBC2 instead of BBC1 then more fool them.

Even if you disagree with Robbie, you can't deny he is always good value. This thread could be very dry reading if it wasn't for his and others' entertaining contributions. It's always fun for somebody to set the cat among the pigeons.
He sure is entertaining. He underestimates often and thats fairly obvious to most regulars here, I cant imagine he will be changing for the better or worse anytime soon.

The Apprentice, of course, should get 6m and whilst it remains by some distance the Premier Cru of the reality shows, a few factors are against it:

- the last series only finished 4 months ago; yes it was delayed, but after an 15 month wait between the previous two series to whet our appetites, a mere 4 months just doesn't feel long enough to excite

- it's a Wednesday show - those who have seen the publicity will automatically think tomorrow (and may well have seen it in their EPG/telly guide tomorrow given the two parter)
Agree with those factors, especially the short gap between series. Im pleased to see it back but there is no feeling of "finally its back", more like "oh The Apprentice is back on tonight, good".

The Junior Apprentice finished last June, last series of The Apprentice started in October and finished in December and now the latest main series is back in May. A case of overexposure maybe.

The day may be a factor too, it was clearly promoted as both days this week but viewers can be quite strange when it comes to moving viewing days for some shows.

I disagree, I don't think many people remember what days shows have been on anyway, You only have to look at the various threads on here when people ask "Is this a new series of QI/Frank Skinner/Would I Lie To You" when it's a repeat at half eleven on a Saturday. I don't think moving from one weekday to another will be that big an issue.

Look at Ashes To Ashes - series one was on Thursday, series two on Monday, series three on Friday. Nobody missed it because they didn't know what day it was on. Look at Corrie, that shuffles all over the shop!

The only time it becomes an issue is if they move it to another day mid-run, not like this, but like that Evan Davis thing on BBC2 at the moment when the first two episodes are on Monday but the third is on Thursday, and the Craniofacial Surgery which started on Wednesday then moved to Monday. That confuses people. Something being on Tuesday five months after its last episode on Wednesday doesn't.

I'd go between 6m and 6.5m for The Apprentice. I also think it could increase further tonight, momentum and all that from last night's episode, word of mouth etc. Actually, maybe not - it has Life of Riley as its lead-in. If it had Waterloo Road as its lead-in, then it probably would have done.

As we all know the papers love to take an average audience for breakfast TV and say 'only xxx watched'.

Does anyone have actual 'reach' figures for BBC Breakfast, Daybreak and Sky News Sunrise?

i.e. the total number that watched at least three minutes across the whole broadcast.

That's a fantastic start for the series. I forgot that 2009 had a great launch figure.

Well a lot of people got it wrong here, not that many would admit it. That exceeded most expectations here.

Any idea about Eurovision yet? I expect Thursdays semi to be it's highest rating ever with both Jedward and Dana International

Towards the top end of my expectations, shall we say.

Perhaps Tuesday would be a better night for it with the EE/Holby lead in rather than 3m watching Life of Riley?

I suspect ep 2 tonight will probably dr.... - no, let's not go there...

I think change 'a lot' to 'all'. Because no one in this thread predicted 7.8m or above.

My first post actually had 3 'eek's in it, I only changed it when I spotted that the 2009 opener was higher!

You said yesterday "The Apprentice, of course, should get 6m and whilst it remains by some distance the Premier Cru of the reality shows, a few factors are against it:"

People should admit they were well out and wrong. Bunch of amateurs

Updated with more from Attentional's website. ITV1 tanked quite literally in the 9pm hour, somehow managed to stay above 2m though.

Well, I was right when I said it should pass the 6m mark - indeed it did, despite the factors I identified against it.

Which makes 7.8m even more remarkable...

I was thinking Tuesday would be a better night lead in wise, but it's one of the few shows that really gives BBC1 a presence on Wednesday nights.

Very good for The Apprentice was not expecting that much.
The week competition from the other sides seem to have really helped.

Brilliant start for The Apprentice. A good 1-1.5m above where I thought it'd be.

A 14.2% peaktime share for ITV1 last night.

And well-deserved, given the standard of Military Driving School and Home Is Where The Heart Is.

Got to hand it to 'em. Just when you think they couldn't make Tuesday nights any worse, they go and do it.

at the 7.8m for The Apprentice. Didn't expect it to launch so well and 1m+ more than what I thought after the last series didn't really post brilliant figures. I wonder how it will hold up tonight?!

I think its very much a spring/summer show - when it aired it winter last year it got squeezed out a bit by X Factor and Strictly.

Some great tweets from Lord Sugar on Twitter - he's as ratings obsessed as us I think! Apparently it peaked at 8.4m.

Fantastic for TA-I expected 7m tops. Starting to wonder whether Tuesday may be a better home for it with ITV not having the one hour advantage like on Wednesdays & also the traditionally weak Tuesday 9pm slot on ITV1. Although with the football moving back to Tuesdays soon, maybe it's best left on Wednesdays.

I expect a similar figure tonight with the movie awards sub 3m and Waterloo Road quite likely above 5m, possibly one of its highest ratings ever with much weaker competition and the poorer weather.

About as expected for Home Is Where The Heart Is considering other recent factual attempts have only managed ~2.5m even without tough competition. Ch4 sales reporting 1.65m inc +1 for Secret Millionaire which suggests it was hit quite a lot by TA.
