They must get this one cheap as part of a deal for the NTAs as the ratings are always awful. Then again, they seem to be making a bit more effort this year as it's taking place at Wembley arena and Take That and JLS are performing live, which should boost it a little. They've also changed the presenter but I can't see Bleakley boosting it!

Well The Apprentice looks likely to rate far stronger than Junior Apprentice did opposite the awards last year, probably over 2m higher. With that in mind, it's difficult to see where extra viewers could come from for the NMAs. In any case the main awards season has long passed. What can the NMAs really bring to the table except a less star-studded lineup?

The Apprentice did well, just 420, 000 viewers behind EastEnders.

Well done to Robbie for successfully turning a good rating for The Apprentice into a exceptionally good rating for The Apprentice, by under predicting massively.

Why it would fall to 6m when it has had massive promotion across TV, radio, magazines for months and was airing on a night that is strong for BBC1/weak for ITV1 only he knows.

Nice to see a total reach for the Breakfast shows (thanks trickytree!) - it certainly makes them seem more significant than their averages might suggest.

Makes for interesting comparisons with the big Radio shows which are thought to be dominant at that time of day. I think the RAJAR (Radio version of BARB) figures are weekly reaches, which must mean BBC Breakfast at that sort of level could well top both the big radio shows (Chris Moyles and Chris Evans) who seem to pull between 7-9 million each for their weekly reach.

Airs on Channel 5 in early June. Can't wait for this! Hopefully they show the two-part finale back-to-back like CBS are doing next week, resting Law & Order for one week.

Ratings have been creeping up since it returned from its midseason hiatus here in the UK. It hasn't dipped below 2m once in the official figures since it returned, compared to 8 times in autumn 2010. The episode "The Red Mile" which aired on Royal Wedding Day (April 29) and achieved a consolidated audience of 2.48m was the show's most watched episode since the Christmas themed episode "Jolly Red Elf" picked up 2.62m in December.

I wish other 'critically acclaimed' US shows were getting the same treatment, with a C4/C4HD placing, rather than being stuck on 'lo-res', fuzzyvision, stereo sound, More4.

Perhaps Rupert insisted on a C4 showing, or he'd sell it to Sky!!

If the finale is 'early June', I wonder if they'll move it to 10pm because of Britain's Got Talent?

What week is BGT airing on a Friday?

Thanks from me too. Considering the length of these programmes the 'reach' is far more significant than a 'whole slot' or '30 minute' average.

Whereas, a typical thirty minute show's average is no doubt much nearer the reach figure, Breakfast TV has always been a 'dip in' for a few minutes type programme.

Shame media journalists don't understand how ratings work.

June 3rd is the Friday it'll be on.

Damn! Of all the Fridays, that's the worst possible one. The first half of The Mentalist finale is due to air that night.

I know they won't do this but they should air a rerun in its place that night and run the 2 hour finale on June 10th. It will be a waste otherwise, because I think this could top 3m.

Looking back at last year, The Mentalist only suffered a 300k drop in the overnights during BGT week. But that wasn't part of a big finale like this one, so had less potential anyway.

Just intrigued as to why you think it will suddenly jump over 1m viewers for the finale?

It's one option, I suppose. I take it Corrie is at 9 and the BGT result at 9:30pm? Maybe it could work as a strong alternative. But I can't see many tuning in at 10pm if they missed the first part, that's the problem. For the best results a week later would be ideal.


I meant over 3m in the officials, not the overnights. The current average is 2.1m (2.2m since it returned in March) peaking at 2.6m, but an additional 500-600k on average watch repeats on 5*, bringing the typical weekly reach to around 2.6-2.8m. Given this finale will contain major developments with regard to Red John, a long running unresolved storyline in the show, I think that should give it more than enough "juice" to take it over the 3m mark with promotion. Even last year's finale did 2.5m in the middle of the summer.

Inside 5 is frustrating. I only signed up for the Channel 5 surveys and all they ever send me is surveys from other companies.

Still, they pay more than your typical survey site I'm told so that's something. But I don't feel like much of an "insider" at the moment!

Just watching ITV news and they briefly mentioned that ITVs profits from adverts was up 12% year on year in Quarter 1. However what was more interesting was the reason they gace for this:

the success of new shows such as Marchlands (fair enough) and Monroe , apart from the first two episodes I thought this was down to around 4.0m in the overnights? Is that now judged a success by ITV?

Corrected your spelling mistake there. The Apprentice is just your bog standard reality competition show dressed up in a business suit so the BBC can pass it off as something more than it is.


I've been saying for a while (well, since the Danish version did the business on BBC4) that C4 should go for the US version. Now, let's hope they schedule it well - Mondays or Thursdays at 10pm.

Quite a few bits of C4 news today - they've also commissioned Black Mirror, a three-part drama series from Charlie Brooker and four-part political thriller Coup, based on novel A Very British Coup.

Anyone know the ratings for OKTV? The show is purely awful... Bout time channel 5 brought back Family Affairs!!! Nothing has even come close in terms of ratings or quality!!
