On one forum I read people were predicting as high as 1.8m for Angry Boys. Myself I thought it might do around 1.5m as ABC has a good track record with comedy on Wednesday nights.

Just under 1.4m is still a good start though. To beat MasterChef in two of the three key demos is impressive. In addition Spicks and Specks beat AGT in 16-39, so it's an effective pairing. But The New Inventors rated abysmally and dragged down their share.

I think it will take a little while to recover back to normal levels now and won't reach the heights of Monday for some time. It even peaked below 400k yesterday which is unusual. The 6pm repeat of the previous day's episode did not make the multichannel top 50 either. (rated below 120k)

Wow, great retention - given that I suspect the Movie Awards did a bit better than the 2.1m Tuesday flopzone, and there were probably less watching TV last night than Tuesday.

10% decline - if that was a Cowell show you'd be launching the lifeboats and cranking up Nearer My God To Thee

Wonderland had a shocker at 9pm - according to Attentional it drew just 612k.

BBC Four was comfortably ahead of BBC Two with Julia Bradbury’s Icelandic Walk, which averaged 934k. (3.9%)

Pity though unsurprising as it was so leftfield, they should have run it on BBC4, was never going to cut the mustard in primetime. Fair play to them for doing something creative and different though, shame there's not much of an audience for it.

I was expecting something like 6.5m so that's good. It will have a tougher test next week with the soap awards and the following weeks with new Midsomer Murders episodes.

The National Movie Awards should be dropped now and not shown next year.

Another fantastic share for WR and that 5.2m figure is pretty impressive too. The 7.30pm change was definitely a good move and it helps that this series is 10x better than the last. Another strong audience for TA though and I really don't understand why LOR isn't doing better.

Awful for the Movie Awards, even worse than I thought. The poor performances from BBC2 and ITV1 in the 9pm hour seemed to boost Ch4 and Ch5- TA yet again not denting the US imports at all which Ch5 will be pleased about.

Excellent rating for Waterloo Road - I think that's its highest overnight rating in a couple of years. Moving it to 7:30pm seems to have been a really good move as it begins right after Emmerdale at the same junction as ITV1's programmes rather than at 8pm when it'd often start half an hour after the football or an awards show had begun. Life of Riley experienced a lift compared to last week although it's still below where it should be to get another series. Good solid rating for The Apprentice - the share once again at that 30% mark, and all in all it was a very good night for BBC1, with their best Wednesday primetime share this year.

Low rating for Wonderland on BBC2 at 9pm. Poms in Paradise did okay for a filler but very poor once again for The National Movie Awards. Second night in a row where ITV have been quite close to C4/C5 in the 9pm slot. I think they should just axe the NMAs now, it might be cheap but the ratings are dire and pull down the whole night's share average. Good start for the A&E doc on C4 - I had a feeling it would do well and I think it could be end up being a pretty successful factual format for C4 like One Born Every Minute. Essex Jungle got its lowest rating of the series, I'm a bit surprised that it dropped given that the competition in the 8pm hour was probably the weakest it'd faced so far. NCIS did well at 9pm, back above the 2m mark. Strong performance too from Julia Bradbury's show on BBC4.

Apart from it's soaps ITV1 is mostly doing badly.

It seems ITV1 has become an "event TV" channel and people will tune in for said events but will get out again as soon as it's over.

Like those grubby supermarkets that have an amazing "When it's gone it's gone" type offers.

That's probably the last we've seen of Essex Jungle, its ratings were fairly poor throughout the run. Next week is the Europa League final which should be good for around 1m IMO, and then the following week a new series called Moving Nature's Giants starts.

NCIS achieved its 2nd highest overnight rating of the series last night.

A few bits of commissioning news:

- 'Don't Scare The Hare' is to be dropped by BBC1, 'So You Think You Can Dance' unlikely to return next year, 'The Magicians' returning in a revamped live format.
- ITV has axed 'Taggart' after 28 years due to low ratings. STV still trying to keep the show alive by looking for investment from other companies.
- ITV has commissioned 3 new light entertainment shows for this summer/autumn. 'High Stakes', 'Holding Out for a Hero' and 'Born To Shine'.
- Channel 4 has ordered 'Quiz Trippers', which follows five contestants as they drive a campervan around the country to take part in pub quizes.
- Sky1 have greenlit a new spy comedy series, 'Spy', due to air in autumn.

If done properly Quiz Trippers could be OK IMO

Some very good news for ITV - NBC have ordered Prime Suspect to series (it's produced by ITV Studios). The project has been in development for ages - orginally planned for a pilot last season, it never materialised due to casting issues. But it found its way back into this development cycle and has been a strong candidate from the start.

It also looks like NBC will go for a female comedy block as well. They have ordered "Up All Night", described as "An irreverent look at parenthood through the POV of an acerbic working mother – who never thought she’d be a mom – along with her stay-at-home husband and opinionated parents". Christina Applegate stars. They've also ordered "Whitney" which focuses on the female half of a young couple - the pilot was written by and stars Whitney Cumming. Neither order is a surprise. It's still possible that Chelsea Handler's sitcom will also go to series - but it's produced by Warner Bros rather than UMS (only UMS shows were picked up last night).

The most obvious pick-up for NBC has been Smash. A pet project of new boss Bob Greenblatt from his days at Showtime, the series is being produced by Steven Spielberg and stars Debra Messing (Will & Grace) and Katherine McPhee (American Idol) in "a show-within-a-show vehicle about a group of people who come together to put on a marilyn monroe-themed broadway musical".

The Wonder Woman remake "appears doubtful" according to Deadline.

The most surprising news from NBC has to be Chuck's renewal surely. That show has amazing survival skills!

Some interesting pickups there though.
