And in the "old days" there was no set of Premier League games on the same day either, but things have already changed and if the FA Cup doesnt it will die where it stands - "sacred" slot or not.

The best news is the BBC is unlikely to bid for the rights when they are next due!
Is that just a bit of baiting RS, otherwise why is this the best news?

You just could not make up the unholy alliance of Jedward and Eurovision.
The BBC are powerless against circumstance but fate has delivered up a moment of true X Factor type hype into their laps.
Graham Norton is going to have the time of his life I reckon-and the whole thing is a glorious curiosity.

Looks like The Shadow Line losing viewers boosted BBC1 and ITV1 at 9pm a little bit. That's quite a big drop for The Shadow Line if you think about it- it's unusual for a new drama on the Beeb to drop more than 30% for episode 2...
Not that it would have made much difference, but was TSL simulcast on BBCHD last week?

a bit of column a) and a bit of column b)

I think ITV have got an unfair rap as regards the FA Cup. They seem to be held to a higher mark than other channels when the criticism is being handed out. But the prospect of the bland & smug BBC coverage coming back would only appeal to the pipes & slippers brigade (and their wannabes)

RTE tried to rig the vote to prevent Jedward going but being even more incompetent than most state broadcasters, couldnt even get that bit right

Yes.

It's unlikely that many who had it series linked on BBC HD watched it last night, so it should get a boost in the officials.

But as we know the BBC HD ratings are nonsense, so it will only register about 40k in the officials!!

And once again, it will prove to be pretty popular with good ratings (as it does every year, despite its shortcomings, both real and otherwise).

He gets it from his head - the part of his head that knows how to wind people up.
It's something like the combined reach of CNNI and CNN/US that he keeps quoting. Obviously the exact figures for his show will never be known as there is no record of CNNI viewing figures. But clearly they certainly won't be anything like what he keeps quoting

Very poor start for Impossible. Given the promotion, idents etc, Channel 5 must've hoping for something like 1m if not more. I don't think they've rated as low as that at 10pm since Heads or Tails about a year ago.
Head or Tails was an early evening show. Are you thinking of another JLC show?

Channel 5
20:00- Emergency Bikers: 622k (2.8%)
I've mentioned it already this week but again an 8pm weekday show below 1 million, and by quite some margin. 8pm used to be consistently over a million, for new programming at least

The soaps all seem to be doing their normal summer low thing, but not too low, and the BBC 3 EE repeats continues to preform above average.

I see Scott & Bailey is going out at 9pm on Sunday nights from 29th May. I thought it might get Thursday night.

Presumably it will be :

19:30 Popstar to Operastar
21:00 Scott & Bailey

Available in about seven and a half million homes (not including Freeview) , so a potential reach of circa 17m people yet only 9.5 million of them tuned in for three minutes or more in a whole quarter. Unbelievable.

Re: Sunday Night NFL Football on NBC

http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/...sey=nav%7Chead

What's the real-world cost to the league if the lockout causes the NFL to miss games in September? Perhaps fans who don't return. A new study by Adweek and Harris Poll revealed that 19% of people surveyed said they would be less likely to continue watching the NFL if the season is delayed.

Ratings for NFL could be severely hit.

That's a bit of bad news for the Beeb, if that turns out to be a success. Jason Isaac stars in that, who's also the main actor in new BBC1 drama series 'Case Histories'. If 'Awake' is a hit, Isaacs won't be coming back to the UK to film anymore episodes of Case Histories.
You never know what may happen. Martin Freeman got cast as the lead actor in one of the most anticipated films for a decade, yet he is still doing Sherlock.

By bland and smug do you mean a well polished and entertaining production?

And by pipers and slippers brigade do you mean a lot more viewers than ITV gets?

People obviously are no way as interested in HD as you are.

I thought the Father Ted episode Song for Europe had a element of truth that it was getting too expensive to host Eurovision so they deliberately sent a mediocre entry to prevent hosting it again.

More than a touch of corporate bitterness coming out there, George!

You only need to look on a football supporters' messageboard to see the reaction when news comes in of the Beeb losing football rights to ITV.

Or even whenever ITV broadcasts some football. Or fans chanting "ITV are effing shit" on the terraces when ITV cover a match. I don't ever recall hearing that for a BBC covered game.

That's the view of real people, real fans. Not Islington media-types.

And rightly, the utterly rubbish BBC Football League Show comes in for its fair share of criticism.

You just could not make up the unholy alliance of Jedward and Eurovision.
The BBC are powerless against circumstance but fate has delivered up a moment of true X Factor type hype into their laps.
But how many people actually still remember who Jedward are?

every week it seems to be flagged as an all time high.

Do ITV keep it on ITV2 or transfer it to ITV1 if it gets any bigger?

So you are taking a bunch of Yorkshire louts as your inspiration now, eh?

considering the euro press buzz around them in Germany, I dont think thats a problem they will have some how. They are getting massive press, tv and internet coverage across all of europe right now

It's hardly "a BBC1 show".
LOL, The Eurovision is hardly a BBC1 show, yet only the other week, you were saying the Royal Wedding was!

Not true. BARB figures for other channels show high percentages of HD viewing.

It's just BBC HD that suffers and to a lesser extent ITV1 HD.

Last week on Discovery the top show had a 37% HD share.

Even mega events like the Royal Wedding or the World Cup didn't get figures like that, despite BBC HD being in twice as many homes as pay HD.

How well did McFly On The Wall for for 5* ? I don't know if it was just me but it seems to be well made, compared the usual standard for these types of programmes.

Some dates for next May:

5th May - FA Cup Final (at 5.15pm)
12/13th May - Final weekend of Premier League
19th May - Champions League Final (not confirmed I don't think, but by default it must be)
26th May - Eurovision

I guess that means BGT will run 28th May - 2nd June, as although the Bank Holidays are a week later (and two of them due to the Jubilee), Euro 2012 kicks of on 8th June.

Interesting the FA have opted to move the FA Cup to 5.15pm rather than 7.45pm - I guess ITV didn't want it taking their full Saturday night schedule. Premier League games will kick off at 3pm.
How much more is the FA Cup going to be devalued? I suppose the year after this it will be moved to 7.45 pm on a Monday night to appease Sky. Having matches before the FA Cup to please Sky this year is bad enough, but next year even the traditional kick off time has been moved.

I dont even know what the EPG is for BBC HD on cable. Not unbelievable at all, and I work in television research.

Could you explain how/why you think the research is unbelievable?
