With the exception of Jade Ewen, the last set of Eurovision entries have been mediocre at best. Daz Sampson and Scooch anyone?

€20m is a lot but I expect they'll recoup most of it through ticket sales and I imagine they'll have an influx of tourists.

the arena seats 35,000 this year so might make a bit back on ticket sales but i dont think the BBC have any hotels.

Not with their taxi bill anyway

I dont know about ticket sales, but money from tourists wont go back in to the BBC, to fill the hole.

US news

No surprise to anyone here, but NBC has cancelled Law & Order: LA and The Event. The dire ratings suggested this was on the cards.

Despite under-performing, Chuck is renewed alongside Harry’s Law and Parenthood. Chuck is on a 13-episode order and the fifth season will be the last.

Who wants to be the new boss of 'The Office' USA? Apparently quite a few famous faces...

With 5.2m for the programme before it and 7.1m for the programme after it, LOR has not flopped because of its scheduling. It's flopped because it's a big pile of unfunnny vomit

Reading the synopsis on the BBC press pack, I'm expecting the Flynns to be of the same standard.

My money's on James Spader but I imagine we won't find out until next season. Catherine Tate is an odd but interesting choice but she's become more known to American audiences due to Gulliver'sTravels

Rumour has it the EBU will be enforcing a national final rule next year where they'll no longer be able to conduct a total internal selection so if that goes ahead the BBC will have to do something next year.

Given that SYTYCD is unlikely to back next year, I imagine Your Country Needs You will be back in some form, I wonder if other countries have the public vote for the singer they want to represent them in Eurovision?

I Hope no one minds me asking this But how do you think Britain's got talent Live Semi Finals and Final will do.

They should just go for a big open competition with a one-off UK contest of 12-15 acts - and it has to be a big show too, not something cobbled together in the basement of Television Centre five minutes before they go on air.

2010: -5%

I think this year's drop is likely to be similar to the 2008/2009 drops, given the hype surrounding Eurovision this year is similar to 2008/2009, if not more. There was little hype for last year's Eurovision with Josh Dubovie (who?) involved. Season-to-date, BGT 2011 has averaged 9.5m/10.0m (exc/inc +1) in the overnights, so factoring in a ~13% drop it'd rate about 8.3m/8.7m (exc/inc +1). If the drop is similar to last year's -5%, it'd be down to 9m/9.5m (exc/inc +1) but like I said above, I think it's quite likely we'll see a trend more similar to 2008-2009.”

I agree. Does BGT usually recover in the official figures?

And in other news I wonder if Deal or No Deal will get a boost from today's show.
Spoiler
Which was the perfect game, with £100,000 and £250,000 remaining till the end and the jackpot being won, along with a holiday making today's player the shows biggest winner so far, and only third jackpot winner in five and a half years.

ABC axes Off The Map, No Ordinary Family, Mr Sunshine and Detroit 1-8-7

Most were predicted, but a shame for Matthew Perry. That's two-for-two since Friends.

The only member of Friends who seems to have any real success after the show apart from Jennifer Aniston is Courtney Cox and to an extent David Schwimmer who went into directing.

More US TV pickups but JJ Abrams and Whitney Cummings are having great weeks as CBS has picked up Person of Interest and Two Broke Girls. I had a feeling PoI would be picked up but it'll more interesting where is it scheduled.

The last couple of years though the song had already been commissioned by the BBC - the public were just asked to vote for the singer which was ridiculous. It's the Eurovision SONG Contest - the clue is in the title. So the public can't be blamed for our poor showing last year, it was the BBC who asked Pete Waterman (of all people!) to write the song.

I don't think a public vote is a bad thing if they made a serious effort with the selection process and invited amateur songwriters to enter songs rather than just singers asked to sing someone else's song.

Having said that I do think this is one of our best entries in a long time so maybe they'll avoid the public vote from now on - although I suspect the disastrous ratings for the selection show last year had more to do with them abandoning it this year than anything else. The BBC have never seemed very keen to make a conscious effort when it comes to choosing our entrant.

Seems like ABC is ready for a completely new start at well, next season. B&S was ready for a sixth season, but at a reduced budget and episode order. However, with so many pilots getting good receptions at test screenings, ABC must have found a new show to place post-Desperate Housewives.
Another reports said the actors and studios were not into the reduced episodes thing. I would have not mind the short sixth season though. Just so they can end the show well.

Link (TV Line): http://www.tvline.com/2011/05/breaki...happy-endings/

ABC renewed Body of Proof and Happy Endings for next season. Body of Proof have been performing decently, getting better numbers for Tuesday 10pm slot. Happy Endings have been getting mixed results, but showed signs of promise in some episode ratings. My guess is BoP will stay in the same slot next year. Happy Endings might move to another night, if ABC decides to have another comedy block night.

So he'll be doing 22 episodes of a sitcom a year rather than 22 movies with exactly the same plot.

The BBC just don't know what to do with it. Back in 2009 they put renewed effort into it and it paid off, but last year they ditched all that effort and got what they deserved - last place. So next year gods know what they'll do - probably have Bananarama singing a Pete Waterman song or something.

That's the schedule for the entire week. Emmerdale loses an episode.

I do think we could see Britain's Got Talent drop to one of its lowest ratings since Series 1 tomorrow, Jedward on while Britain's Got Talent is on will dent it more than usual I think.

Busy day for US news;

Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, had been in development at CBS and was seen to be in contention. However, CBS have passed but the show will still make it to air because The CW have moved in with a series order.

Quote:
“Ringer, from ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios, centers on Bridget (Gellar), a troubled young woman on the run from the mob who hides out by inhabiting the life of her wealthy twin sister, Siobhan, until she learns that her twin’s life has a bounty on it as well”

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/

NOTE: ABC Studios have pulled out of the project now.

CBS is one of the owners of The CW.
