Big drop from last years BGT launch- I'm glad hopefully this will make Cowell reconsider his role on X Factor.
Excellent rating for BGT. I'm impressed that it broke 10m without Cowell and in a later slot. SIYC did very well, surprisingly. Life Stories did OK and fantastic for the football. BBC1 held up OK but SYTYCD still flopped despite a far easier slot. |

Fantastic return for BGT-including +1 that's pretty much in line with last years opener. That's great considering there's no Cowell and last years came off the back of SuBo. SIYC also debuted very well, probably boosted by SYTYCD failing to perform yet again and the good lead in. I don't know what's gone wrong with SYTYCD, because it should be at least above 4m imo.
Awful for Eurovision, but I can see why they gave it an early primetime slot, considering how bad it did on Friday night last year. As predicted the lottery and Casualty faced huge drops, but Casualty should do fine when it's out of the way of BGT, which the BBC seen keen to do to protect it. I think that's an OK rating for Piers considering the late finish and I reckon when he's getting an earlier slot he'll do better. It pulls in a consistent ~4m every week and as seen from The Prisoner that's quite hard to do. I don't think there's much else which could have been given the big lead in last night, apart from maybe POG and experimenting trying out Piers on Fridays at 9pm? |

I hate to sound geeky, but that 2009 rating is tapechecked and the full slot rating was 10.3m.

Oops, yeah you're right that 2009's averaged 10.3m. I posted the 5-minute peaks.
So the peak was a bit further down on last year than the average but it was on a bit later this year so as the show grows as it goes on that's to be expected (The X Factor often started tailing off a bit after 9pm last year).

![]() Also, are they 5 or 15 minute peaks? ![]() Thanks a lot for these rzt. ![]() ![]() Sing if You Can made big gains after 8pm, I wonder how many people actually after the football just kept on ITV1 as the default channel. Britain's Got Talent did well, not down too much on last year and I think ITV will be reasonably pleased. Fantastic peak for the football though. SYTYCD has to be over 4m next week, especially straight after Who. rzt, do you have the F1 ratings for yesterday? (6am to 8:30am and 1pm to 2:30pm on BBC1) Ta.

Really had a great ITV Saturday Night. With Who Dares Wins taking over Secret Fortune, I wonder how everything will go. Was expecting higher for BGMT.
Great footy result! (Clue in the name... )

Good solid start to the series for BGT - down a little compared to last year's opener (0.6m or 0.2m depending on what you prefer to look at), but I think it was always going to be difficult to reach the heights of last year's opener given the circumstances (no Cowell, not coming off the SuBo phenomenon, slightly later slot) so it coped well. It should be able to get a similar sort of rating next week with the more ratings-friendly 8-9pm slot. Sing if You Can started pretty well - there wasn't any noticeable drop off in audience throughout the hour, and as expected it experienced a boost in the final 15 mins with people tuning in early for BGT. I think it'll drop down to 4-5m next week with no football lead-in and people not liking the 1st ep. Okay for Life Stories- about what thought given the relatively late slot. More Talent on ITV2 was low though, as it's usually over 1m.
It was always going to be difficult for the Eurovision documentary to muster up a decent audience against such tough competition. SYTYCD pretty much static at where it's been the last two weeks, although this time it was in a later slot. Next week, I think its rating will rise to 4.0-4.5m due to the Doctor Who lead-in. Secret Fortune didn't drop as many viewers as I thought it would - it was down 0.7m week-on-week which isn't too bad considering other Lottery shows like Who Dares Wins has dropped 2m against BGT. I thought SF would've been in the low 3's. As expected for Casualty - at least it's going to be just for this week and the BGT final because it looks like the Beeb are scheduling it to begin in the 9pm hour most weeks which will be after BGT ends. |

With the hot weather, I think a 9pm slot for Britain's Got Talent would probably suit it as well as an 8pm slot, maybe even better. Britain's Got More Talent technically got over 1m (if you include +1) - but as you say, I think it's losing the pulling power. Personally I'd get rid of it on Saturday nights and put it on a Sunday night where it'll be alongside the more reputable Only Way Is Essex. |

SIYC benefited from being on before BGT, but if it goes head to head with Doctor Who, then it will be flattened in the ratings as most of the comments about it have been negative. A very respectable result for BGT, which I always find a far less hyped and OTT show than the TXF.

I correctly predicted SIYC's ratings in the poll that D.M.N conducted last night, but that was somewhat higher than I predicted in the Ratings Prediction Game. My prediction last night was based on the number of people on the forums saying "I watched this and it was ****." I look forward to seeing its ratings plummet next week. Or will it?
Next week it's SIYC against SYTYCD. That's a bit like Blackpool and Wigan playing each other in the premier league. Someone will win the match (or it'll be a draw that does nobody any favours) but you'd still expect both of them to get relegated. Except I'm thinking Wigan will survive by the skin of their teeth. Maybe SIYC will do likewise.( )Here's hoping BBC1's Saturday ratings are a disaster next week so that they are forced to swap Dr Who and :yawn::yawn: as soon as humanly possible. |

Saturday 16th April Overnights
[nb: edited to remove ITV1+1 ratings] ITV1 16:40- Live FA Cup Football: 6.40m (36.6%) * peak: 10.06m (49.8%) at 19:05 19:20- Sing If You Can: 5.33m (26.0%) 20:20- Britain's Got Talent: 9.95m (40.5%) * peak: 10.95m (43.4%) at 21:30 All exactly as any sane person would have predicted, unless they're deliberately underplaying expectations. That said, the football only peaked marginally higher than the QF did (which got 9.8m), and BGT overnighted at just below the important 10m barrier; it also peaked (again, just) below the 11m mark. But clearly it will get an official rating well over 10.5m. I don't buy the "no Simon" nonsense - as if the viewing millions really give a toss about the judges - they tune in for the dancing dogs and stupid/fat/ugly/talentless (delete as applicable) people making complete arses of themselves. SIYC entirely in line with expectations - perhaps it would have got the c6m I expected had the football peaked higher and more tuned in for BGT (or "BGDDAS/F/U/TPMCAOT" as I put it...). I fear this show could be around for some time - don't overlook the motto: "Don't matter how shit, if it's a hit"...

)With the Easter holiday, and it being so late, I suspect DW will get a deservedly atrocious overnight next Saturday, although it will probably consolidate at another 2m higher than that once people watch it. Probably a 7-7.5m official - overnight could be 4.5-6m depending on how nice it is next weekend. Serves them right - they should NOT be premiering a key show like DW so late, especially when the show had a year off to re-align its scheduling with the seasons. ITV must be pissing themselves. The likely nice weather will probably knock the Royal Wedding ratings if it holds - suspect many will take the family out for the day if it looks like being a cracker. |

Maybe it was the round before that then. I distinctly remember a Saturday teatime football match on ITV1 peaking at 9.8m, as I predicted a 10m+ peak and was surprised it came in just below that threshold.
That had been the highest peak for the competition till yesterday. |
