One rating in from last night:
Quote:
“'Long Lost Family', co-hosted by @Thisisdavina and @NickyAACampbell , began with 4.8m on ITV1 last night, the most watched programme at 9pm.”

A solid start for it - about what I expected in the mid 4's range considering ITV promoted it quite a lot (for a factual show). Much tougher competition next week though.

Share should be above 20% because of the weather. Will be interesting to see the drop next week.

Thats pretty good considering what it is and how cheap it probably was to make. Even with the strong competition next week I can see it staying above or on 4m since it was pretty well made - a bit sickly sweet for me but then what's to be expected - and the subject interests many people.

Cheers Bushmills. Those are some low ratings - EastEnders dropped quite a bit compared to the last couple of episode but how was its share? If it had about 40% that would still be good.

What did the ITV soaps and Most Shocking Talent Show Moments on C5 get last night? Thanks

Coronation Street got 7.4m according to tvscoops on Twitter.

Good start for Long Lost Family, especially considering ratings are always low on the Thursday before Easter. It'll be hit by the tough competition next week but if it can keep at 4-4.5m+ for the whole series I think ITV will be pleased.

really glad the Sex Ed shows ratings are low.
C4 seem to think showing some diddlers and other bits = good ratings.

10 o'clock live is sinking like a rock.

No surprise to anyone though.

We shan't be seeing its return once its run ends.

A true case where the total doesnt equal the sum of its parts.

Really bad shares for both Home & Away and Hollyoaks. It's like the 2 teen soaps are being abandoned by teens who want them both to "grow up" a bit.....

Some really low ratings all round last night then - although that is not really surprising given that it was the night before a bank holiday and the weather was exceptional in most places.

I believe that is Doctors lowest ever overnight rating - or at least during the last couple of years I have records for it anyway.

ITV1 and C5 seemed to hold up quite well at 9pm last night. Long Lost Family could well be keeper if it can retain 4m of that audience.

Not quite a record low then, but excluding the episode on April 7th (690k) where Sky cut out half way through then it marks the lowest episode broadcast this year.

Well I suppose Neighbours did just about OK and it had a strong share but that is Home And Away's 2nd lowest ever overnight rating, although yesterday's H&A' share was around the seasonal average (lowest ever was June 30th 2010 with 622k 4%).

talking of Hollyoaks, with C4 asking for companys to pitch a new soap I got to thinking last night, how on earth do you pilot a soap?

Can you really judge how a soap will work out on one episode? is it not as much about Channel 4 being able to believe that the executive producer is capable of making the show good over at least the inital order.

Any figures for the overnights for Rubicon Ep 3 on BBC4? It was reported on here that episode 2 got 182,000 and I was trying to find out what sort of trend the figures were showing.

Thanks guys.

Also, considering Most Shocking Talent Show Moments lasted three hours until midnight, I think 1.37m is quite a respectable rating.

Quite a poor night last night on all channels.
Channel 4 and 5 being hit hard.

Eastenders is also quite low.

hold up on the EastEnders bashing guys, Corrie didnt do any better

19:30- EastEnders: 7.32m (39.2%)
20:30- Coronation Street: 7.14m (33.8%) , +1: 251k (1.2%)

Meanwhile some viewing was obviously time shifted to the BBC 3 repeat.

Doctors had ratings of 900,000 in 2001 but other then that the rating is quite low

Clearly the Hot weather/Easter and the fact that people are now off work is affecting all the soaps.
Doctors is now off untill Tuesday anyway

EastEnders had another Briliant BBC 3 repeat rating and the share for the BBC1 showing was Brilliant too.

The EastEnders share shows there's nothing to worry about.

Another 1m+ for the BBC 3 repeat

exactly, all this discussion of low ratings, should really be aimed at Corrie, which had less total viewers and a marked lower share 6%

Last night shows the value of the BBC 3 repeat to people, when its a nice day, like it was, people can go out, in utter confidence that they can catch EE later at 10pm.

Exactly.

I fully expect Corrie to come out on top tonight.
I think The Easter holidays will now affect EastEnders and given the Younger Viewers it's no surprise.

Im sure EastEnders usuallly rates poor on Good Friday (other then Max being Buried alive episode)

Im, not too worried about who got the best ratings, I just dont understand all the EE bashing, when last night it preformed better than Corrie, and Corrie seems to have been given a free pass.

Im not trying to bash Corrie here, its simple numbers.

Thats how it always seems to be though.
Even the press pick up on EastEnders when they have lower ratings and nothing gets mentioned about corrie.

Of course when EastEnders rates low the BBC 3 repeat always does well which suggests people are watching but later in the night

A shame really they didn't move the last edition to air on the Friday to get some instant Charlie Brooker reaction to the coverage.

It was always planned as a four week pilot series. Whether that means C4 will take one look at the ratings and axe it or actually see what went right, what went wrong, and then give it a second shot remains to be seen. Should be noted Richard and Judy was a very different show a few months after the launch - though whether it's better for these changes to be made on air or off air is debateable.

Worth noting C4 have denied inviting companies to pitch, but a good question - and one I think which shows why C4 is better to work with what they've got rather than start afresh as it's surely far easier to illustrate how you'd improve an ailing show than it is to show how you'd make a brand new show a success.

It is worth noting Hollyoaks is actually much improved on this time 12 months ago (though not without it's problems) - the problem is that just isn't reflected in the ratings. The lack of promotion certainly doesn't help, but there is obviously more to it than that.

In the world though where Hollyoaks is axed C4 would be stupid to look for another daily soap to replace it. There just isn't the room or desire in the market for one and C4 would be much better refocusing funds on long running returning drama series, where there is plenty of room (but plenty of risk) in their schedules. Even just getting one or two series which can run 22 episodes a year (or at the very least 13 weeks) into the schedules would be a major boost to the schedules.

as much as it isnt fair to say it, it is the ratings that matter, rather than any improvements in the shows over all quality.

I dont believe there is a market for a new soap either.
