This 5.30pm slot always awkward to fill - but although the entire budget for a series of Don't Scare the Hare may be less than repeat fees for a single episode, I think they could repeat the likes of My Family and even Doctor Who and Merlin (and even Robin Hood) in the slot rather than commission new content for it.”

DSTH is an Initial production. They're the makers of Total Wipeout. Maybe the BBC got a buy-one get-one-half-price special offer.

And of course there was a Bit of Promotion during Paul O grady and that advert has been shown quite a bit.

However i wouldn't expect big ratings anyway.

I guess they thought being Easter and everything it could rate well.
I got the feeling Dr who will top 7 million as it's got a lot of promo and the BBC also shown a 1min clip before EastEnders last night and then the trailer right after.”

Well, I can assure you it was not shown when I watched it. Dunno if it was a region thing or something, but there was no clip and no what's next etc. Very strange!

BBC 1 has an incredibly poor lineup except for Doctor Who, which has been placed in an awful slot. I can't see it topping 6.5 million, in a better slot that show can achieve over 7 million for a series opener surely?”

I must say I am beginning to wonder about Danny Cohen's scheduling abilities - has he been taking lessons from Jay ''I don't care about the ratings'' Hunt ?

Doctor Who used to be shown at 6pm in the seventies and I don't think this ever harmed the ratings, as it pulled in 16 million viewers in the Tom Baker era. The fans will watch regardless, same as an earlier start for Eastenders wouldn't affect the ratings much.

Dont Scare The Hair, I agree it is a much better show for CBBC.

Only 3 channels back then, plus the BBC had a kick arse line up to help!

ITV regions used to opt-out of a Saturday night back then aswell, so Doctor Who would be up against diffrent shows.

Doctor Who acheived this peak when ITV were on all-out strike. So viewers had 2 choices - populist(ish) BBC1 or posh BBC2. No internet and very few video recorders.

During the 1970s, Doctor Who was in a schedule alongside other monster hits like Bruce Forsyth's Generation Game.

Nowadays it's sandwiched between the numbingly barmy (Don't Scare The Hare) and the numbingly boring (So You Think You Can Dance).

You can expect 5.5m-6m in the overnights at best... with a huge timeshift... but what can you expect when BBC One's flagship family drama is on before a niche dancing contest which is struggling to pull in more than 4m.

7.15pm-8pm is the perfect family slot for Doctor Who, where it'd be a proper event before Britain's Got Talent where it'd be pushing for 7-7.5m. The BBC shouldn't be using it to boost other shows. Just my opinion, that's all.

However, in fairness to the BBC, great decision to split the series - meaning we're likely to see bigger audiences at the right time (i.e. the finale's not gonna be in June).

Some predictions from me:

BBC1
17:25 - Don't Scare the Hare: 1.4m (11%)
18:00 - Doctor Who: 5.9m (39%)
18:45 - SYTYCD: 3.3m (18%)
20:00 - Lottery: 3.9m (17%)
20:50 - SYTYCD: 3.2m (15%)
21:20 - Casualty: 4.7m (24%)

ITV1
17:00 - March of the Dinosaurs: 2.4m (15%)
19:00 - Sing if You Can: 3.5m (18%)
20:00 - Britain's Got Talent: 9.0m (39%)
21:00 - Piers Morgan's Life Stories: 4.0m (21%)

Unfortunately Don't Scare the Hare will probably get a ton more than that. I also think Sing if You Can may collapse from last week.

Which would be fortunate, no?

I saw a clip on The Wright Stuff and it really is as terrible as it sounds.

Still I guess ITV1 could broadcast an hour of paint drying before BGT and it would clear 2m.

I'm sure Don't Scare the Hare was meant to be narrated by Miranda?

If I'm honest I think DSTH was pretty good and it was fit the bill ideally for light entertainment. I'm also probably very wrong but I can see DSTH getting just under 4m and DW getting just under 7m

Yeah, I thought that too! I just googled it and it looks like it was meant to be her!

Maybe she watched an episode and then backed out!

Jason (DSTH presenter): "I'm really pleased that you've connected with the bizarre. It is nutz, and that needs to be spelt with a z. It was created by a bloke from Endemol and they came to me, we did a pilot and it was all very strange. It just immediately caught my imagination.~

I see from the Chelsea - West Ham highlights on MOTD that it was pouring with rain in London at 6pm. That could be good news for Dr Who.

I watch on ITV1 HD. So maybe that's the difference. Very odd though IMO.

I think you are becoming a tad obsessed with the BBC, when you start wishing for rain

I'm surprised there has been no comment about Don't Scare the Hare from you? You were all over Sing if you Can, for weeks?
