Yep, you just know this means Corrie is heading back to Wednesday's.

Just to confirm CL contract renewed for 2012/15 with ITV and Sky.

ITV - 1st pick on Tuesday

Sky - everything else

so 16 Tuesday nights filled for ITV1. Add in specials and other football and that leaves only about 1/2 year of other programming required for Tuesdays from 2012 onwards

ITV are to get CLs first picks again on Tuesdays in the next rights deal. Cue Coronation Street's return to Wednesdays at 7.30 perhaps? Although perhaps they will retain the Thursday 8pm soap hour & move the Friday 8.30 show? ”

That's big news from a scheduling perspective. Champions League back to Tuesday nights will partly help sort out the Tuesday problem. They can also switch the FA Cup replays to Tuesday too, and most of the midweek England matches are Tuesdays nowadays too.

I agree with you that they're better off retaining the Thursday 8pm soap hour and switching the Friday 8.30pm episode to Wednesday 7.30pm. That's because the Corrie lead-ins on Thursdays have helped the 9pm dramas, even if it's by a little bit, the Corrie lead-ins do help. Since they have no intention, it seems, to air 9pm drama on Fridays they should switch that 2nd Friday episode to Wednesday 7.30pm and then light entertainment can start at 8.30pm on Fridays or they can have repeats from 8-10pm.

A problem though is that ITV will have a lot of free Wednesday 8-10pm slots now. There's nowhere near enough Midsomer Murders episodes (about 16 per year including repeats) and Awards Ceremonies (around 6) to fill that slot. If they hadn't axed The Bill, it would've been ideal to switch that back to 8pm but of course that's gone. So possibly a lot of 'filler' material will be airing on Wednesdays from Autumn 2012.

I'd say they will stick with Midsomer type 2 hour dramas for quite a bit of the year (both new & repeats in summer)

They can also launch new stuff much more easily at 8pm Wednesdays off the back off CS and have no need to worry about Eastenders getting in the way.

If Corrie's second Friday episode moves to Wednesdays then I think BBC One will be able to launch prewatershed sitcoms on Fridays at 8.30pm.

To be honest I'm skeptical that this will solve many problems for ITV anyway. Corrie will take time to re-establish itself on Wednesdays, and there's no guarantee that their new shows between 8pm and 10pm on that night are going to fair much or any better than the shows they are currently filling Tuesdays with. As we've seen on Fridays, the Corrie lead-in isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

It looks like they've done it primarily because the internationals tend to fall on Tuesdays now, and it does make sense from that perspective. But I definitely don't think this is the answer to all of ITV's problems. The damage has already been done from the football moving nights in the first place.

Indeed. The key thing was that moving football nights in the first place basically killed off The Bill (the only free 8pm slot was Tuesdays opposite Holby, hence the move to 9). Now they're moving back, they can't just totally reverse those scheduling changes.

I'm sure the BBC are desperate for ITV to move Friday's 8.30pm Corrie. A golden chance for pre-watershed comedy with an EE lead-in. If not then 8pm Thursday would work too - though what would happen to Emmerdale in that scenario?

Nobody (apart from you) said that it was. So its pretty easy to argue against something that nobody was suggesting.

The problem with Tuesdays has been that ITV had no reliable programme to claw back the audience from BBC1 after Eastenders. This wont be a problem on Wednesdays and 8pm Wednesdays will be a stronger launch pad than 8pm Tuesdays were for ITV.

Its a net gain to ITV to move the Champions League rights to Tuesday. Nobody is suggesting it "solves all ITVs problems". Its not as if they acquired the Big Brother rights

Yes Amanda Holdens fantasy lives, Lion Country etc will now double with the Corrie lead in

Most of ITV's 8pm Tuesday programmes had an an inheritance of 7m from Emmerdale a few years ago, It didn't help Trinny and Susannah[the original Adrian and Christine] now did it?

Options for CS scheduling:

1. Mon 7.30/8.30, Wed 7.30, Fri 7.30/8.30 (3 nights, Thurs moves to Weds)
2. Mon 7.30/8.30, Wed 7.30, Thu 8.30, Fri 7.30 (4 nights, double on Monday)
3. Mon 7.30, Wed 7.30, Thu 8.30, Fri 7.30/8.30 (4 nights, double on Friday)
4. Mon 7.30/8.30, Wed 7.30, Thu 8.00, Fri 7.30 (4 nights, Thursdays at 8)
5. Sun 7.30, Mon 7.30/8.30, Wed 7.30, Fri 7.30 (4 nights, old-school Sun/Wed restored)

Radical idea:

Mon
7.30 Emmerdale (1/6)
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 Coronation Street (1/5)

Tue
7.00 Emmerdale (2/6)

Wed
7.00 Emmerdale - Hour-long (4/6)
8.00 Coronation Street (2/5)

Thu
7.00 Emmerdale (5/6)
7.30 EastEnders
8.00 Coronation Street - Hour-long (4/5)

Fri
7.30 Emmerdale (6/6)
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 Coronation Street (5/5)

Benefits:
* Emmerdale always precedes EastEnders
* Corrie always follows EastEnders
* No double episodes, better for storylining
* Corrie continues lead-in to drama at 9pm on Thursday

Problems:
* 8.30pm void on Wednesday nights - 90 minute pieces from 8.30pm? New sitcom slot 8.30pm?
* 7.00pm void on Mon/Fri - put Tonight there back to twice a week?

Strong start for The Voice on NBC.
Quote:
“The premiere of NBC’s The Voice was strong, averaging a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating, leading NBC to top the nights 18-49 rating”

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...source=twitter

Quote:
“ But the big surprise was the two-hour debut of singing competition The Voice on NBC, which scored a very solid 7.5 rating/12 share in the overnights from 9-11 p.m., building from a one-hour version of lead-in The Biggest Loser (#4: 4.8/ 8 at 8 p.m.) by 56 percent. While The Voice ranked second in the overnights in each of the four half-hours as follows, results among adults 18-49, particularly in the 10 p.m. hour, could make The Voice the dominant occupant.

The Voice (NBC)
9:00 p.m.: 6.9/10 (#2)
9:30 p.m.: 7.5/11 (#2)
10:00 p.m.: 8.0/12 (#2)
10:30 p.m.: 7.7/13 (#2)

Compared to the week-ago combination of the second hour of The Biggest Loser and the season-finale of Parenthood, The Voice built by a hefty 63 percent.”

http://www.adweek.com/news/televisio...une-nbc-131048

11.8M viewers overall according to Variety, who also say it's the highest rated series premiere on any major network in the demo since CBS' "Undercover Boss" debuted Feb. 7, 2010, following the Super Bowl.

If ITV did what you're suggesting above, the BBC would almost certainly respond by moving EastEnders to 7:30pm and they'd probably introduce a Wednesday episode at the same time. Hardly something ITV would want to encourage. The 7:30pm timeslot is a good timeslot and ITV won't want to give it up just like that and risk EastEnders moving in permanently.

EDIT: Ah, I see you've moved Emmerdale into that slot. That would probably deter them from doing that!

The Voice did very well but whether it can maintain its audience remains to be seen but a great result nonetheless. Wonder if the format will be picked up here?

Sea Patrol flopped on its return! I wonder if this is the final series as I imagine it's expensive.

It was a really low rating premiere, down nearly 30% on last year and I'm pretty sure that is the show's worst ever rating although it has been sliding for a while. Bad news for Nine as that's the easiest competition it is ever going to get. Once the ratings period resumes on Sunday it could slide even further.

I think there's a chance this could be the last series if it doesn't recover, although the main networks have to make up their local drama points somehow and Nine doesn't seem to have many new dramas in the pipeline, with the focus this year on comedy.

Nine hasn't been that successful with drama whereas Seven's done quite well with Rafters and Winners and Losers. Underbelly is their only successful drama as everything has flopped.

The ideal situation for Corrie would be to move Friday's 8.30 episode to Wednesdays at 7.30

Funny how people have been saying every single week that this should happen, and now it looks that way, it is now 'ITV rearranging the deck chairs'
