IMO the BBC should have trailed tonights EastEnders seeing as scenes are being filmed today and the Wedding will be shown in tonights episode in what looks like a Happy and Fun episode

true, the annoying thing here is that posters are not balanced - for instance Andy23 and GeorgeS are never going to negative about ITV, while Robbie will never be negative about the BBC, while Brekkie will never say anything good about the BBC

Totally agree with you, one of the reasons I don't post in this thread is the how some FM's seem to hate certain channels. Personally I don't care what what channel a show is on as long as it entertains or educates me in some sort of way, shame the view ain't shared by everyone.

Well according to Martin Lewis on twitter, ITV were ahead of the BBC on showing the dress. So it looks like bbc were delayed! Realistically what difference does it make if ITV or the BBC were a couple of seconds apart?

I don't know how you can say "BBC seemed to have gone and spoke to the crowd and shown around London alot more." ITV keep going to Mark Austin who's trending on twitter becuase of how amusing he is getting mobed by the crowds!

The spilt screen was useful i thought, for example they could show The Queen arriving at the Abbey as well as one of the other royals ( can't remember which one)

Looking at the news it seems there's quite alot of events and around 5,000 street partys so EastEnders is just showing whats going on across the UK today.
Why should Walford be any different.

Indeed, we all know how keen EastEnders is to reflect reality!

On the iPlayer listings, the BBC have split the coverage into:

8:00am The Royal Wedding
10:00am The Royal Wedding
1:40pm BBC News at One
2:00pm BBC London News
2:10pm The Royal Wedding
4:00pm BBC News

Whether that is purely for the iPlayer or will be used as the official Barb split times remains to be seen.

The BBC One O'Clock News is pretty much the only pre-4pm programme to make the overnights top 100 printed in Broadcast on a regular basis. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1.40 bulletin is the highest rated news programme of the day.

I imagine the BBC felt a general promotion for BBC1 would be a more appropriate trailer at this juncture than one for an individual programme like Dr Who, So You Think You Can Dance or Exile. Of course, they could have gone with no trailer at all, but that would have just confused them.

Changing topic a minute, but notice the excellent Pyschoville is back next Thursday on BBC2 for it's second series. What sort of figures did it get for the first?

A lot of Huw Edwards, certainly when everyone was going to the Abbey, seemed to be almost 100% scripted.

Obviously I would expect him to have prepared a great deal but possibly not quite a complete word for word script?

IIRC the ratings weren't that great, I remember being surprised and delighted that it got a second series.

The split screen thing was a massive advantage for ITV, especially for an event where you need to be in multiple locations. The first glimpse of Kate Middleton was indeed on ITV (thanks to the split screen) whilst the BBC were solely at the Abbey.

Not that any of it matters, ITV have had an excellent Royal Wedding, but it won't be reflected in the numbers. BBC 1 'default status' always kicks in for events of this nature.

Back to last night, if Long Lost Family could come top against those ratings juggernauts, it could do very well for the remainder of the series and a recommission seems likely. Crucially, a potential returning factual series for ITV.

Next week it's up against a documentary about the human body on BBC One.

Just seen a new Ch5 schedule on Radio Times for Thursday May 12th:

8pm-Emergency Bikers (NEW)
9pm-Extreme Fishing (NEW)
10pm-Impossible (NEW)
11pm-Banged Up Abroad (NEW)

What a strong schedule with returning series of EB, EF and BUA and a brand new illusion show at 10pm. I was wondering where Impossible would be slotted and that seems like a decent slot. Seems like they're continuing to target men on Thursdays after the football finishes.

Also Ch5 have a fairly decent schedule today with Royal Wedding specials of The Wright Stuff & OK:TV. Neighbours had a special scene fitted in, there's slightly extended news bulletins & a repeat of the William & Kate film. More than Ch4 seem to be doing.

Could we see a combined peak of 30 million today? (Adding BBC/ITV/SKY peaks) - ratings may suffer as it has been a long broadcast since 8.00am.

The BBC has an air of gravitas about it, ITV seems a lot more fluffy, both have an audience and hopefully the viewing figures will be impressive.

Yeh Neighbours had a specially filmed scene about the Royal Wedding in today's episode at lunchtime (2:30pm). Evening episode is in the usual 17:30 timeslot.

I'm going for 28 million viewers, with the BBC taking 24 million, ITV1 3 million and Sky News 1 million.

I believe series 1 got between 1m-1.2m, but it did get 1.7m for its Halloween special which was actually shown on Halloween itself last November. Can't wait for it to come back though, such a brilliant show!!

Sorry, Dan, but I usually watch BBC on occasions like these but tried both in the first hour or so then stuck with ITV as they added a touch of lightness rather than gravitas. At a wedding it is what you want.

Schofe at twitter, or whatever he kept promoting himself as, was a nice easy watch.

I agree that BBC will win the ratings but next time more just might give ITV a try as they exceeded my expectations today.

Though I should add that going ad free for 6 hours was a major reason we stuck with ITV. That will surely have cost them money but won them viewers.

Hooray it's all over. ITV now paying the bills with some advertising.

But don't forget you can relive it all over again for 90 minutes in primetime tonight on BBC One.

Thanks for this update, IIRC the overnights for series 1 were poor, I'm not sure they were all over 1m, but I don't care I love it, it's quirky and off the wall, Halloween Special was excellent. I wish someone would re-run the excellent League of Gentlemen again, it was amazing! Dave or Gold, just seem to show the same stuff voer and over.
