Sam Hodges, BBC Head of Communications predicts ~25m. The delay in ratings I think is probably due to the large volume of data to process, if there's more people watching TV on a typical day, or 'abnormal' viewing patterns then that means more data to process meaning it will take longer.

Peak in Holland was 2.7 million. Thought it would be higher due to lower lead-in and lead-out but not too shabby during the daytime.

Breaking News...

That was the peak for the entire day?! Well that's disappointing!

I guess 6.00m for ITV is still quite good?

Looks like the peak overall was in the region of 23m to 25m then? Very good peak for BBC, however I think ITV will be very pleased with the 6m peak. Well deserved, that.

EDIT: The overall averages may be more interesting, as I suspect the average for BBC maybe a lot lower than the peak.

I'm sorry, but that's just poor. The highlights might be high in prime-time though.

Remember the many who would have been watching the streamed output instead of broadcast TV.

So a 90.6% overal peak share - impressive and thats without Sky etc.

So ITV peaked at the beginning of the service and BBC towards the end. Intresting.

Royal Wedding Combined Peak
The Royal Wedding had a 5-minute combined peak audience of 26.2m (93.4%) at 11:15 across BBC1, ITV1, BBC News, Sky News, Sky Living, E! and Fox News (including HD simulcasts where necessary).

When the peak of 26.2m (93.4%) happened at 11:15, the channels' audiences were broken down as follows:

BBC1: 19.03m (67.8%)
ITV1: 5.94m (21.2%)
Sky News: 693k (2.5%)
BBC News: 437k (1.6%)
Sky Living: 86k (0.3%)
E!: 9k (0.03%)
Fox News: 2k (0.01%)

This was the combined audience for all those channels added together at their absolute highest peak cumulatively. Each channel might've had individual peaks at different times (as mentioned in my previous posts) but when added together, simultaneously this was the highest total peak audience watching the Royal Wedding at any one time yesterday across all channels broadcasting the event live.

It was the most watched televised moment in Britain since Princess Diana's funeral in 1997, which had over 30m.

-->Notes:
- As ITV1+1 and Sky Living +1 broadcast on a one-hour delay, those audiences have not been included in the aforementioned 5-minute 'live' peak, however their audiences will be mentioned in my next post.
- CNN, Al Jazeera English, France 24 etc also broadcasted the event but they are not BARB reported channels and therefore ratings for those channels are unavailable. However I suspect no more than 0.1m would've watched on those channels anyway.
- The above ratings do not include people watching on big screens, in pubs, clubs, theaters, parks, cinemas etc.

Detailed overnights on the way soon...

Unlikely. The two peaks didn't happen at the same time. In fact, reading between the lines, it looks as though some of ITV's viewers switched to BBC for the actual ceremony?

K

edit, so about half a million switched away from ITV during the course of the ceremony? I wonder why?

edit2: A big thanks to rzt for the figures!

First off, many thanks rzt for the analysis... next few posts should be interesting.

In my view, a 26.1m peak for any event in this day and age is exceptional. Most watched moment since Diana's funeral I see, wow.

I was one of the six who went for 26-28m in D.M.N's poll. I really thought I'd gone too high. Just got in by a whisker.

In my view, a 26.1m peak for any event in this day and age is exceptional. Most watched moment since Diana's funeral I see, wow.”

Phenomenal figures for the time of day and context.
I've just ran some reach figures from 11:00 to 13:30 across all channels showing the wedding, looks like 29.5m (approx) tuned in to watch some of the wedding/celebrations.

When the peak of 26.1m (92.4%) happened at 12:10, the channels' audiences were broken down as follows:

BBC1: 19.27m (68.05%)
ITV1: 5.54m (19.6%)
Sky News: 700k (2.5%)
BBC News: 521k (1.8%)
Sky Living: 71k (0.3%)
Fox News: 22k (0.1%)
E!: 2k (0.01%)

This was the combined audience for all those channels added together at their absolute highest peak cumulatively. Each channel might've had individual peaks at different times (and will be noted in my subsequent post) but when added together, simultaneously this was the highest total peak audience watching the Royal Wedding at any one time yesterday across all channels broadcasting the event live.

It was the most watched televised moment in Britain since Princess Diana's funeral in 1997, which had over 30m.”

Thanks rzt. Actually not just for today, but for all the effort you especially put in to providing this thread with the information we all take for granted.

And something we haven't talked about but it'll be interesting to see how low BBC2/C4/C5 go opposite the coverage too.

EDIT: Very low is seems!

Can we change ZERO to ONE before Dancc gets here?

“BBC1
* 08:00-08:30: 4.67m (50.9%)
*ITV1
* 08:25-09:00: 2.22m (18.8%)”

Does this suggest to anyone that both Breakfast and Daybreak got high figures for the Royal Wedding building up?

That's awful, obviously as Dancc says they were providing an alternative, but it looks like they should have just simicaulst Sky News instead.
