I'd agree that BGT tonight was the weakest of the series so far. The first 2 were actually alright - the talent was generally lacking but some of them were funny & interesting and the new judges (particularly Michael) covered up the lack of talent in the first episode. Again, there's not enough depth. For the past couple of years, they've got to the final with 10 good acts and they'll probably manage that this year. But there's the small issue of a weeks worth of semi-finals that need another 30.

The Oxford guys were alright. The kid at the end was good. The girl with the snake was kind of cute but that'll not work again. Herbie will make the semi-finals but he's not up to much and the reaction wasn't merited. The dancing woman with her trousers falling down was mildly amusing mainly due to Ant & Dec but they missed some input from a grumpy judge (I'm sure they knew it was all a bit of a joke, but sometimes it doesn't come across like that when they fawn so much!). So from tonight I've got 2 acts for the semi-finals. They need to be finding 5 or 6 an episode to fill the 40 slots.

I'd imagine ratings will be down tonight. If the weather is anything like it was up here, on a holiday weekend after the Royal Wedding, it'll probably not be the only show down either. The DM might get their pick of DW and BGT this week.

I'm surprised MPD and The Mentalist were unaffected by the Royal Wedding highlights especially The Mentalist which was up from its last episode despite being off for a week due to Good Friday.

Wonder when we'll get the figures for the live coverage on American television as it was broadcast from 3am ET, BBC America took the BBC feed so broadcast in the early hours/

slighty off topic, but Patrick Jane reminded me so much of the Doctor when he said "the Butler did it, I always wanted to say that"

Guess I'm a bit late to the party but I've had to wait ages to check out the epic ratings. Brilliant figures for the Royal Wedding, a peak of 26.2m is truly amazing and beyond my 24m combined peak prediction. I think this wedding will remain a candidate for the top 5 television peaks of the 21st century in the many years to come.

Also I'd like to add my thanks to rzt and all the foreign ratings posters for the incredible detail provided on the ratings today. I have read through all of it and added a couple of posts into my Internet favorites, as I will no doubt want to look at them again in the future, as this day goes down in the ratings history books.

despite being labelled a Royal Wedding cynic, I see no problem in getting the ratings from 26 million to 30 million, even 31 million, its the other 29 million, I cant find, and that means that basically only 50% of the country was intersted, its a far cry from some of the claims that have been made by pro Royalists.
Some of that 29 million we can't find would fall into these categories though:
- Babies to young to physically watch TV. BARB don't count viewers aged under 4yrs, of which the UK population was 3.5m as of 2001.
- Holidays. Around 2m were said to be going abroad for the bank holiday weekend.

I guess that leaves around 24 million still to find though.

A percentage of of people don't watch tv or indeed own one. Some people are in prison/hospital, many were at work/shopping. Millions of people literally hate the royals - so watching the RW would be self torture.

I would argue that well over half the country has seen some of the wedding on tv by now. The Republicans need not worry, very few royal programmes will be on TV this year. The wedding was basically a one off event.

Sadly reality tv will dominate the last 8 months of 2011.

Doctor Who averaged 5.4m (30.5%) last night.

More overnights soon...
Tut tut tut tut tut.

Here's hoping this will persuade the BBC to swap it with SYTYCzzzzzzzz:yawn: from episode 4.

edit: especially now  has dropped below Sing If You in the ratings.

edit edit: just realised SIYC's figures include +1 so maybe SYTYCD didn't lose to it after all.

Looking at the 15-minute breakdown head-to-head from 7pm to 8pm:

3.175m (17.0%) for SYTYCD and 3.225m (17.3%) for SIYC. Very poor for So You Think You Can Dance, move Doctor Who so it can improve in the overnights immediately.

Will SYTYCD be finished by the time Eurovision comes on in two weeks or will they be dropping it for a week?

Good figures for Who Dares Win giving that it's the meat in a mouldy bread sandwich and up against one of telly's biggest ratings hit (however much the press try to portray it {BGT I mean} as flop of they year.)

So not many people saying "Oh no, I've missed Sing If You Can. No, wait, it's on now on ITV1+1. Phew!"

Sharp drop for DW, but the share is decent and it's dented from the early start. SYTYCD is a really bombing-with weak competition and a good lead in it should be doing much better imo. The Lottery is performing well as BGT filler, but Casualty still seems low considering it's out of the way of BGT and it's main ITV1 competition is under 4m. It should be at least over 5m.

Another stable figure for BGT, but I agree with Score that the quality last night was awful and Louis worked better last year with Piers & Amanda. I dread to think how they are going to fill the live shows and we definitely don't need more performances this year Another poor figure for SIYC, and it sort of explains DW's poor figure when viewers don't want to stick around at 7pm. I think Piers should have been nearer 4.5m too.

MPD boosting Ch4 once again in an otherwise poor night.

Not great all round really apart from BGT.
BBC1 should just droop the dancing because its not helping Doctor Who at all.

I think 23Million for the Royal Wedding in the US is really good to because it was on like 6AM over there.

Interesting that BBC1s better saturday performance is outside of primetime (relatively 'better' for the time) while ITV1 have it the other way 'round.

BBC1 really need a cross-generational primetime saturday night show that appeals to men as well as women.

er... The Generation Game? (hosted by god knows, BBC have so few male presenters with any edge nowadays)
