For e.g. do they risk starting a 6-part drama right after Euro 2012, when it's likely the last 2 episodes would be up against the Olympics and get crushed? A lot of scheduling problems there.”

In that case I doubt they'll bother commissioning a new drama, and just run a 3/4 parter in those slots between Euro 2012 and The Olympics.

“Also on another note, the BGT live finals might have to be earlier next year. Traditionally they begin the live finals in the late-May/early-June Bank Holiday week, but if they do that it would clash against the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the last couple of episodes would clash with the beginning of Euro 2012. A potential problem there- say for e.g. an England match is on the Friday/Saturday evening, ITV would most likely have that match (they usually negotiate for peak-time England group matches) so it wouldn't be possible to have the BGT shows then. Even if there's no England match, I doubt they'd want to go up against the first couple peaktime Euro 2012 matches which could put a dent in the BGT ratings. ITV might have to move the finals to the May Day bank holiday week, a few weeks earlier.”

That could cause problems with the Saturday night schedule that would have consequences across the year. I think they'll keep the live shows in the week they're in this year, so week commencing 29th May, which is the week before the Jubilee. That could mean that press coverage is pretty limited though, but I can't see them running them much earlier as it would mean starting the whole series earlier and cause problems on Saturday nights in May. Although, with Simon no longer on the panel they could run them weekly or twice a week (Saturdays and Sundays) and start the series slightly earlier, so it would be done by the end of May.
On a similar theme going back to something that came back a few days ago, it does look like they'll be having the same schedule for BGT week as last year, if those quotes are anything to go by. I can't believe they're going to repeat the same scheduling again after seeing the effects it had on BGT last year. BGT will be starting too early and Corrie on before a separate results show will just sap away its momentum. It's not like Corrie needs the boost so I don't understand why they'd want to do it again. They'd be far better off playing BGT from 20:30-22:30 on Monday and Friday and 20:00-22:00 Tuesday-Thursday. Corrie could then have an episode on the Sunday before the week at 20:00 (leading into BGT's 90 minute final audition/selection show), Monday at 19:30, Wednesday at 19:00 (1 hour) and Friday at 19:30. Emmerdale could have hour long episodes on Tuesday and Thursday to make up for losing Wednesday's episode and Thursday's 8pm episode. That would allow BGT to do so much better.
If they're really desperate to use BGT to boost Corrie then alternatively they could show BGT from 19:30-21:30 each night with Corrie at 21:30. That way Corrie would still get the lead-in but BGT would continue building momentum into the 9pm hour rather than the results show doing relatively badly later on. It isn't ideal for BGT but it would be better than splitting it like last year.

but the fact that Rafters continues to do well after 3 and a half series is amazing.
