Easier said than done. It's an indie production, with contracts etc. The contract is for two more series, so that will no doubt cost the BBC, if they pull out.
But does it matter? It's getting 3m on a channel that shouldn't be ratings driven and my wife enjoys it!! |

They're currently having the press conference for Simon Cowell's new game show for ITV. Red Or Black will be hosted by Ant & Dec and will take place over 7 consecutive nights in the summer. Looks like they're giving away £1 million each night.
Press release out - sounds like it might be a bit like Wanna Bet? Except it'll be the audience of thousands betting on the celebrities doing the challenges? Or maybe I'm getting it wrong - it's not the clearest press release I've ever read. ![]() It'll come down to the execution, I guess. Gameshows seem really difficult to get right just now. My early prediction is that by putting up so much money, it could fall victim to the Pokerface curse - where even a solid 5m a night won't be enough for a renewal. And unlike The Cube, this one won't get any cheaper over time. In other news, The X Factor semi-final and final are likely to be held in larger arenas. |

I think it would be madness for the BBC not to get this as it is something they cover well and their low key style of presentation is ideal. 6.4 million is nearly what Emmerdale got last night.

The BBC have to use something like the AIs as it has to be representative, and the sample design and weighting structure will make it so. Twitter/social networks are notoriously not representative, and only representatve of a rather small sub section of society....what everyone else's opinion is, we don't know, because they don't post....hence the need for large scale and representative sample surveys. That said, I'm not denying the possibility of corrupt respondents, nor do I entirely understand shows that consistently achieve low AIs...it's like someone telling you they hate a show, and then the next day, watching it again and telling you they hate it again....stop watching it!!! So I take your point entirely on that one.
Quote:
I think Breakfast shows typically have lower AIs than peaktime shows because there aren't many alternatives. In terms of live breakfast TV, there's only BBC Breakfast, Daybreak and Sunrise. So it's possible that people who watch Daybreak, for example, might not like it that much but will continue to watch it because there's not many alternatives out there, or the alternatives don't appeal to them as much as it does. Hence the low AIs for it but remaining at 0.7-0.8m most working days.

And unlike The Cube, this one won't get any cheaper over time. In other news, The X Factor semi-final and final are likely to be held in larger arenas. The summary on the official website is a bit more exact, and confirms the show will air in September. I thought the live broadcast would come from Wembley but the website confirms that the 'final, live stage' takes place in the 'Red and Black Studio'. Quote:
It all starts in June at the Red or Black? Arena in Wembley with a series of spectacular events, each with two possible outcomes - Red or Black. http://www.itv.com/redorblack/
If you choose the right outcome you will move one step closer to winning that massive, life-changing one million pound prize. The next stage of the show will take place at a number of locations around the UK. You’ll be asked to choose which location you would like to attend and on which date, via the application form. At the location, more dramatic rounds will be played out. Who will jump higher, where will it land, who will be quickest? Whatever the question posed, there will only ever be two possible answers - Red or Black. It couldn't be any simpler. The final stage takes place live on ITV1 at the Red or Black? studio in September. Once there, you are just a few correct choices away from becoming a millionaire |

A statement from the Britain's Got Talent Press Office has been released which rejects the rumours that have hit the headlines in the last couple of days:
“There is no truth in reports that David Hasselhoff is going to be dropped from Britain's Got Talent in 2011. "Britain's Got Talent is currently the biggest show on UK television with huge audiences for the first three episodes which have helped ITV to dominate Saturday peak time viewing for the last fortnight. "We are delighted with our new judging panel. David Hasselhoff is doing a fantastic job, as are Michael McIntyre and Amanda Holden. It has always been the case that we focus on the show which is on air before we turn our attention to what comes next so we haven't yet looked at Britain's Got Talent for 2012." |

Anyway, poor ratings for virtually everything on Channel 5 yesterday. The Gadget Show is in real trouble if its ratings don't pick up soon, and The Hotel Inspector rated low for its standards.

The Gadget Show a moneymaker given the success of the live show but I think it needs a back to basiscs revamp, maybe cutting back the episodes to 2 10-13 episodes series a year and dropping a presenter or two.

BBC News repeating the Newsnight special at the mo. Weird to see Newsnight on the news channel, obviously making the most of the fact that tonight's edition was shorter than usual. (35 minutes instead of 50) If they were to repeat it normally at this hour, it would only leave them 10 minutes at the top of the hour for the day's headlines.

A couple of stories doing the rounds today that might be of interest:
- According to The Sun, Channel 4 is bringing Shipwrecked back for yet another series. That show seems to have more lives than a cat! |

Personally i'd love the BBC to move EastEnders to 7:00pm across that week and have something different at 7:30/8:00pm
And TBH so what if BGT does dent it? BBC3 benefits, it will bounce back and the BBC shouldn't always be concerned with getting the highest possible ratings Quote:
ITV1 performed the best in the 'Ulster' region with a 33.8% share - about 12 points higher than ITV1's national average.
![]() But that probably explains why ITV's coverage did comparatively better. UTV have always outperformed the rest of the network haven't they? Only place in the UK were the ITV regional news beats the BBC IIRC. Maybe STV could learn something from them. For starters a sensible opt-out strategy Quote:
Monday 2nd May Overnights
18:30- Regional News and Weather: 5.8m (28.0%) 18:30- ITV News & Weather: 3.0m (14.9%) 17:00- 5 News at 5: 0.7m (4.6%) |

Case sensitive did well. Exile dipped but I would imagine it'll hold pretty firm tonight considering the lead in. The ITV soaps were dented by the snooker and performed pretty poorly but EastEnders did well.

![]() 17:40- SYTYCD 18:40- Doctor Who 19:30- SYTYCD results Presumably, SYTYCD results will be about 20 mins, so that National Lottery fits in before Eurovision at 8pm. This is different to what the BBC Press Office is currently saying though so maybe better to wait for confirmation when the schedules are finalised tomorrow afternoon. The possible scheduling of SYTYCD before DW does suggest perhaps they'll do that in future weeks and push DW closer to the 7pm slot. |

Those three timings are incorrect. BBC Regional News was at 1845, ITV News at 1815 and 5 News at 5 was at 1710 (despite the name). Are those ratings for the actual slots those 3 bulletins aired in, or are they for the times mentioned?

US Ratings - Monday 2nd May
ABC:
8pm - Dancing With The Stars - 20.88m (4.4) 10pm - Castle - 12.23m (2.9) CBS: 8pm - How I Met Your Mother - 6.73m (2.7) 8.30pm - Mad Love - 5.75m (2.2) 9pm - Two and a Half Men (R) - 7.63m (2.2) 9.30pm - Mike & Molly - 8.06m (2.3) 10pm - Hawaii Five-O - 9.36m (2.4) FOX: 8pm - House - 8.48m (2.9) 9pm - The Chicago Code - 5.54m (1.6) NBC: 8pm - Chuck - 4.12m (1.4) 9pm - The Event - 4.02m (1.3) 10pm - Law & Order: LA - 4.81m (1.4) Season low for House - probably its lowest since season 1. Series low for The Chicago Code which is all but dead. Series lows for Mike & Molly and Hawaii Five-O. NBC's line-up improved but at that level, it really doesn't matter. Two and a Half Men's repeats are limiting CBS right now, but at least their 8pm hour was up (HIMYM up 8%, ML up 10%) Tvbythenumbers |

Total Wipeout must be a repeat opposite the FA Cup Final surely?
Other than that looks like a damn good BBC schedule. Well, making the best of what they have anyway. |

I agree the Look East example is bad and has been bugging me for days. But the generic descriptions for programmes a couple of weeks or more ahead has always been the case. They will get updated with more thorough descriptions in later updates.
The thing that annoys me more about DigiGuide since it got took over is the decline in quality of the editorial side of things. Suddenly half of the TV picks on a given day are pay TV broadcasts. Yesterday was a joke with a repeat of Spartacus on Sky1 one of the day's highlights- yeah right! Today is even worse with a load of obscure pay TV shows like Confessions of an Animal Hoarder, Victory by Design and Heavy being picked. I'm not saying none of these shows are worthy of inclusion but the pay TV to FTA TV ratio is all wrong. It used to be a good source for what's best on the box but lately it isn't very represenatitive at all and you could be fooled into thinking they are being paid to endorse some of these shows. Have a look and you'll see what I mean: http://digiguide.tv/pick-of-the-day |

that is not something I paid a great deal of attention to previously, I use Digiguide for its raw data.
Also I find it odd how they have always been so far behind with Channel 5, I get the advanced listings pdf, probaly the same time as them, they could be doing better, but that was the case before the take over. |
