im sorry did I miss something, has Cowell been declared leader of the free world,, what on earth makes him think 1,000 will turn up, simlpy becasue he says so?

Needless to say if I end up in the Syco Productions Draft, I will be going to Canada.

That has shades fo the Dalek run reality shows in "Bad Wolf"

whatever next, the unemployed forced to take part of Syco Productions, for the amusement of the public, there doll money depending on how well they do in whatever format they are playing.

They could always port across The Big Bang Theory to sure everything up, of course, but they'll surely be reluctant to admit defeat with that Thursday block.”

If it comes back, I think they have to stick with things as they are and have faith in the replacement. A reboot should generate huge press attention anyway.

The poll on TVBTN is surprisingly positive (lots of cult fans there - they don't tend to like reality shows!). Over 70% predicting no more than a 0.5 fall from last week - indeed more than 30% of them predicting a rise.

Why can't ITV make drama like this, instead of one detective, surgeon or middling family drama after another?

So 4m or so isn't really what it deserved. The BSI, typically, didn't give it much of a chance though airing ep 1 against the second hour of ITV's latest Corrie-enhanced detective procedural and ep 2 against another new ITV Corrie-enhanced detective procedural and the World Snooker Final climax which always brings in the viewers. Numpties (or double agents?) the lot of em.”

But exactly what I expected it to get. There are some BBC dramas that are designed to try and get big ratings and some BBC dramas that aremade to win critical acclaim and brownie points and Exile (like Accused or Occupation) are firmly in the latter category.

Stop getting so angry about BBC1 not getting 20 million viewers every night.

And with ITVS holding some of the format and a 90 minute runtime they'll offset some costs. But I don't really know what kind of cost this show would come in at. I doubt they'd order a show that needs to pull 8m+ at 8.30pm on a Tuesday night at the end of summer to be a success. But as I said, it also doesn't sound like the kind of thing they can pay for on ratings hovering around 5m. It's hard to say.”

I think the ITV Studios part is key here. They must think they can make some money from the format, which will offset some of the costs. The Sun are reporting it as a '£15 million show' which suggests that it's going to cost about £2 million per episode, which is huge (I assume that is based on it giving away an average of £500k per show based on there being a 50:50 chance of winning £1m). So it's definitely going to be big. Famous and Fearless didn't really have many good stunts, and wasn't very 'fearless' at all.

Based on the £2m per episode, they'll be looking at about 1.4m 16-34s just to break even, so by the time they're making a solid profit they'll be looking at 1.7-1.8m or so, and as these shows tend to get approximately25% of their viewers in this demo, they'd be looking at about 7m to make the sort of profit they'd need to make from such a big commission. It's certainly a big risk. And to think The Voice was considered hugely expensive at $1.4m (~£950k) in the US!

There's an online application form to go into a ballot. I expect it to be vastly oversubscribed.

Thank for that. Good to see CNN doing so well. It's ashame they don't scrap the majority of presenter led programmes and opt for rolling news more often.

Thanks rzt. Seems like having a drama stripped on Monday and Tuesday does not work for ITV anymore, another 1m loss on Monday's, not as bad as The Reckoning's dip though a few weeks ago. Surprised Exile won the slot.

This is weird. An ITV 2 part drama falls on day 2. This happened before very recently with The Reckoning. They don't normally do that.

Usually these stripped ITV dramas do drop a lot. For the Tuesday episodes, in last couple of years all those stripped/2-part dramas have dropped at least 15pct vs Monday episode rating. Worth noting yesterday's ep of CS wasn't shown in Scotland which might've brought down its average a little (0.1m/0.2m).

Exile has had excellent retention, finishing on the same number it started with, only dented .2m on Monday.
Stupid, stupid scheduling though, Had it started at the same time as Vera it may have had more chance, than starting half way through. Still those who tuned in stuck with it, or so it seems.

My memory is playing tricks on me. I remember two part dramas not falling too much with the second episode.

Yeah DCI Banks and Little House held up well, although those 2nd episodes were on Mondays post Corrie, not Tuesdays after sub 3m Countrywise. Those Corrie lead-in probably helped.

At 10pm, Archer (Season 2) got off to a fairly strong start on 5* with 154,000 (0.8%).

In the 9pm hour, BBC Three's provocative documentary Fast Food Baby had 782k (3.2%).

Hello rzt and all,

DS reporting that Katie Price bowed out with 225,000 (excluding +1 from the sound of it). That's down from last week's average of 272,500 viewers.
