Well I can't speak for the other social networking sites as I don't use them but The Hotel Inspector is the most discussed non-soap/reality show here on Digital Spy this evening. For reference ahead of tomorrow's overnights, here's a look at the overnight audiences for each series opener to date:
Series 1 (September 2005): 1.3m (6%) Series 2 (July 2006): 1.4m (7%) Series 3 (September 2007): 1.3m (6%) Series 4 (July 2008): 1.2m (6%) <--- this one was preceded by a series of "revisited" episodes, bad idea Series 5 (July 2009): 1.6m (7%) Series 6 (July 2010): 1.8m (8%) Notably this is the first series to launch outside of July and September, which is interesting. Personally I think it has a good chance of topping last year's launch to become the most watched ever, especially with BBC One's feeble 9pm offering. |

This is all very true. 12.3m across 4hr 15 on the Monday night - 15m at the peak at 11.00pm.
http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entert...io/2024971.stm I don't think we can read anything into the ratings of these little build up documentaries. Had a glance through last nights on iPlayer and there seemed nothing there I hadn't seen before. I don't think it tells us anything about the wedding - just that people aren't lapping up the same images, quotes and soundbites that have been clogging up the news for the last few months. When something actually happens - the ratings could be a different story. There's almost no way of knowing. If a 50th anniversary procession/church service/parade and flypast can attract these numbers, imagine what the marriage of the future King can get! Bank Holiday Monday 1000 World Cup 2002: Brazil v Turkey 5.32m (yes, at 10am!) ... 1900 EastEnders 8.33m 1930-23.15 Party at the Palace 12.54m * peak 15.1m @ 2300 * peak share 68% Bank Holiday Tuesday 0925 The State Procession 5.74m 1125 State Service of Thanksgiving 6.51m 1345 Carnival in the Mall 7.88m [nb: the last hour averaged c11m IIRC] 1845 BBC News 9.44m 1930 World Cup 2002 Highlights 5.38m 2030 EastEnders 11.36m 2100 Holby City 8.22m 2200 Spooks 6.0m And in a good daytime week for BBC1, on the Friday that week (when everyone was back at work), Argentina v England averaged 12.00m for a 12.30pm kick off. And probably another 12m watching at school or work. |

Excellent figures for the Formula One and the London Marathon held up well considering the opposition. Countrywise also performed brilliantly, while Lewis did reaosnably well. Shame for The Cube; it really deserves a better slot than that. Antiques Roadshow seemed to be hit due to the lower lead out, though Britain's Royal Weddings did ok.

Don't forget that BBC1 has (unfathomably) waved the white flag and rolled out the red carpet for it. Other shows that failed on Fridays for ITV hadn't been treated so generously by the Beeb. w/e 10 Apr 2011 Millions 7 CANDY CABS (TUE 2100) 6.17

It reminds me of the build-up to the VE50* celebrations in 1995 and the Golden Jubilee in 2002, both celebrated with extra bank holidays, public celebrations and wall to wall TV coverage, and both during hot spells as it happened. The sneering, Guardianista, metropolitan view was that the younger generations wouldn't give a toss, and frankly, most people would be out enjoying the extra holiday and it would all be a big flop. But both were massive triumphs, and genuine national events celebrated across the generations, with millions out on the streets of London and huge TV audiences.
I can't remember how VE50 rated, but the Golden Jubilee attracted massive daytime ratings for BBC1 all day, and less so for ITV1, and the culmination of the Bank Holiday Monday event was the Party at the Palace, which had been written off weeks in advance as likely to be embarrassingly naff and a huge turn-off. It attracted up to 15m at its peak, and would have averaged not far off that had ITV not scheduled Coro St against it. (* - for younger readers, VE50 was the commeration of the 50th anniversary of the end (in Europe) of the Second World War. Which we won... )I think the street parties will be in the afternoon/evening after the wedding. It would be a bit daft having a street party to celebrate the event, but schedule it for the same time and miss it! ![]() I drove past a council estate in Manchester today where the residents had Union Flags and St George's crosses out en masse. Of course, they may be holding a BNP or EDL rally... ![]() ![]() I'll just see the bits on the news,EastEnders,Newspapers and thats more then enough for me. Nodoubt the radio will also cover it |

I'm surprised Spider-Man pulled in over 2m, Channel 5 have shown it before to lower ratings, the competition wasn't even that weak and it started at an odd. Can't see Ghostbusters pulling in the same ratings but the films are working as a lead in for TWD.
BTW what is the films for the week starting 30th April on Channel 5, will be interesting if it is a premiere or a repeat. |

Surely everyone on here knows that ANY big national event on BBC1 will get massive ratings.
What % of people in the UK have any real interest in athletics? 1%? 2% maybe? How many people could name more than two or three athletes? Or indeed any? Yet next summer BBC1 will have 12 million+ watching athletics. It doesn't matter WHAT the event is. If it is a big national event with massive publicity it will get huge ratings. Remember the predictions for the General Election Leaders' debates? They were very low and the actual figures were very high. Exactly the same thing - except of course the Royal Wedding is a far bigger, far more hyped event. |

Sing If You Can has 2 offers from US broadcast networks according to Nellie Andreeva at Deadline. Zodiak (the shows producers) may want to get that deal done before the ratings for episode 2 come out.
The proposed US version will feature members of the public rather than celebrities.

If Sing If You Can turns into a hit, like the promotional video suggests it is, I will loose total faith in ITV viewers. |

ok moving from a rubbish show to a good one. One show im currently enjoying is Radio 4s "The Unbelievable Truth" with David Mitchell, and friends.* , I also enjoy The Chaser (War On Everything & Yes We Canberra!) it seems 7 is making a Aussie version of TUT featuring The Chaser http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2011/04/...for-seven.html Quote:
The pilot is actually a TV version of The Unbelievable Truth, a BBC radio panel show. Four episodes were filmed last week in Chan 7 studios in Sydney. The CHaser team is involved with Graeme Garden (of Goodies fame) and Jon Naismith (the UK Producer of the radio show). Both GG and JN were down here to oversea the pilot shooting as they both own the rights to TUT in the UK. I hope this is both true, and that is ends up on Dave.A UK TV version can not be made due to rights issues…so they are mounting the production down here. Three of the chaser boys… Andrew, Julian and Criag took turns as the chairperson…Graeme sat on one of the panels. TUT has guest comedians on each show, trying to “out-lie” eachother. It’s huge on the radio in the UK…. and hopes are it will be great here on TV. Steve *if my reccomandation means anything to you, you should go the iPlayer and listen to it when you get the chance, its awesome. |

My House is Infested: 1.3m (4.3%) 21:00 - Meet the Middletons: 2.3m (8.3%) C5 17:00 - 5 News at 5: 0.7m (6.7%) 17:30 - Neighbours: 1.1m (8.5%) 18:00 - Home and Away: 0.9m (5.5%) 18:30 - OK! TV: 0.3m (1.6%) 19:00 - 5 News at 7: 0.2m (1.1%) 19:30 - How Do They Do It?: 0.6m (2.8%) 20:00 - The Gadget Show: 1.0m (4.3%) 21:00 - The Hotel Inspector: 1.6m (6.5%) All include HD and +1 where necessary. Superb figure and share for EastEnders. The ITV soap shares are good, and the raw figure is good for Emmerdale, Corrie's shares are good but viewership is a bit down on EastEnders, but I guess that's to be expected. The Reckoning did well, and that figure should mean that it beats Candy Cabs tonight, if that goes below 4m tonight then that may mean no recommission for it. The Middletons' documentary did well on C4, while Hotel Inspector had a solid start on C5. Pretty poor night for BBC2 though. |

so now ive been outed as an EastEnders fan, I can say that the episode deserved that rating, the entire cast (even Shane Ritchie) raised the bar.
Not good for The Gadget Show however. |

Fantastic for all the big 3 soaps last night. EE maintained Fridays performance and some great shares for Corrie-particuarly if the latter episode isn't tapechecked.
Pretty much in line with how I thought The Reckoning would perform and it should give a boost to Tuesdays line up just below 5m. Hotel Inspector slightly below my expectations but still a good figure and higher than I thought for Meet The Middletons. Bad night for BBC2, especially in the normally solid 8pm hour. |

Nothing official yet but suggestion on Twitter that Game of Thrones had 710,000 viewers for Sky Atlantic last night, which if correct would make it the biggest overnight rating since the channel launched.
No U.S figures yet but some reports say they may not be as strong as Boardwalk Empire's debut. HBO delayed the publication of the figures. |
