Which is probably the kind of job (or BGT) that she should have had from the start rather than SCD. Nicole would have been perfect but that seems to be out. Of the names listed, I'd have said Lily Allen.

I think Alesha would be alright, but aside from the embarrassment of losing a judge to a rival show, they'd probably be doing Strictly a favour. She has already failed to replicate Cheryl Cole on one show so I'm not sure why they'd try that again.

As for BGT, it could use a lift this week anyway because this is the worst week for y-o-y comparisons (episode 4 last year was the top auditions episode). But I thought the episode was worse than last weeks which was poor to start with. At the rate they're going they'll be dividing 4 good acts over 5 semi-finals!

It's interesting they've opted for two presenters rather than just one, Nicole could easily done it on her own.

I wonder could they save time and money by having just three judges and bringing back 16-24 category. It worked for Idol, maybe it could work for X Factor.

Paula Adbul for The X Factor doesn't surprise although Cheryl will have to compete with her for Cowell's affection.

I wonder how it'll affect American Idol, it's returning next season but it may look old hat compared to The X Factor if it takes off.

I dont think there would be anymore embarrasment for SCD than for Cowell actually having to go for a SCD judge ahead of anyone else.

I think they are starting to get desperare in terms of the young female judge who will be capable at judging and get the press attention.

I havent really been watching but have seen a few of the acts on youtube and spoken to friends and the level of talent seems awful. 2 of the 3 acts I actually thought were good aren't even British!

The live final week could be quite woeful if they dont have a few good acts still to come.

Ratings up last night pretty much across the board. Obviously due to the rain. Proof, Daily Mail, that Dr Who's ratings went down last week because of the weather, not because it's too scary.

An extra 1m viewers for DSTH . Seriously, folks, wouldn't you rather sit under a tree in a thunderstorm than sit through this terrible programme?

I predict it will run Sunday 29th and Monday 30th (putting it on against Coronation Street and BGT results probably - but why not? It flopped last year!) The Bank Holiday is one night when the BBC can move the (Ten O'Clock) News to a later slot.

Just a note that even excluding +1, Sing if You Can beat So You Think You Can Dance quite convincingly:

19:00 - 3.3m (17.0%) vs 3.6m (18.5%)
19:15 - 3.2m (16.2%) vs 3.8m (19.2%)
19:30 - 3.4m (16.4%) vs 4.3m (21.0%)
19:45 - 3.8m (18.3%) vs 4.6m (21.8%)

Doctor Who and Britain's Got Talent had nice boosts. The latter had about 9.9m/10.0m excluding +1 by the way. The Dance rating does prove it is the right decision to move it considering its losing its slot. You could argue that its just to leading into Britain's Got Talent, but it won the entire hour, so I think not myself.

The Hare improved, but I don't think BBC find the figure or share acceptable at all. Saying that, we might see mid 2m's for the Dance next week at 5:30pm.

Ouch at the ratting for 19:00- Sing if You Can: 4.1m (20.1%)
It might even come back for another series now.

Radio Times has Doctor Who sandwiched between So You Think You Can Dance for at least the next two weeks. Maybe the schedulers have finally taken notice of the criticism.

People have short memories on here. A couple of months ago Push The Button was getting a right kicking for similar ratings, and that wasn't opposite a failing dance show on BBC One, nor was it followed by one of the ITV1 big hitters.

It seems the only measurement which is important to some people on this thread is if ITV1 beat BBC One. If this occurred then the actual numbers don't matter.

In reality we all know that if BBC One put Doctor Who out at 7pm as it should do, Sing If You Can would be firmly in 2-3m territory along with Don't Scare The Hare and forgotten about very quickly.

What an unfortunate sandwich to find itself in. I think the bread either side has gone mouldy.

Oh well, it's better than before. But it would be even better if they could get SYTYCD out of the way in one slot instead of two to avoid a mass switchoff after Dr Who.

True. Sky1's Got to Dance does performance, vote, results in one show.

Did we ever get figures for the Chelsea v Spurs match that was on SS2 last Saturday? And didn't I read here yesterday that Doctor Who has a high male demo?

In comparison to tv on the whole being watched more so by Women, it's higher than average. Although it still averages around 50/50 split.

Push the Button had Ant and Dec presenting and should have been ~5/5.5m. Sing if You Can was ridiculed on this thread as soon as it was announced and was expected to flop.

Different expectations and all that.

DSTH's upswing could be due to people tuning in at 6PM to see DW which didn't start until 6.15 this week - I guess the five minute breakdown would show if this is the case.
2011 is good

Good for Britain's Got Talent. Up on previous weeks. I found some of those comments that the comedian made very harsh. No wonder people are turning on!

BGT does seem to have taken more of a hit this year on the negative opinion front but 10.4 million is good in anyones language. However, if the audience has got fed up with it in one way, there isnt anything else firing the imagination to view elsewhere. In that way the show and ITV do have quite a margin for taking things for granted.
Not having followed the +1 argument closely-is it now industry standard to add in +1 figures for an overall total? Is it accepted that if +1 did not exist those viewers would watch the standard transmission?

Everything seemed to get a nice boost last night- fantastic for BGT all things considered. The poor acts seem to be balanced out by the better judging panel and I have noticed there seems to be more focus on the judges this year, which is normally just left for the ITV2 show. SIYC is doing OK, but I still think it should be doing slightly better with the poor competition and the lead out. Similarly with Life Stories I think last nights episode should have been nearer 4.5m considering it featured The Hoff.

Better for DW, but SYTYCD still flopping. Casualty still below par and the only explanation I can see for this is the poor lead in, because it should be around 5.5m when it's main competition is only getting 4m.

Some strong shares for CDWM there and it always seems to do well in the early Saturday slots. MPD stabilising Saturdays, although not reaching the heights of last series.

Nice to see everything on Ch5 make 1m and a strong share for CSI:NY considering the late slot. If it does end up being axed (hopefully not), then Ch5 would do well to promote it as CSI:NY's last ever episode and maybe have a CSI:NY themed weekend across 5:USA and Ch5? (This is assuming the show will be axed before the remaining 6 episodes can play out?) The show has been a vital part of the schedule for the past few years and although repeats will probably still manage 1m+ in the slot it will mean there will be more repeats of the same episodes if no new ones are being produced.

No there's no industry standard regarding +1. Some BARB data bureuxs like Attentional don't automatically bundle them together, whilst other data bureuxs like the BBC's Pulse do. Some days we get figures from Attentional, other days we get figures from Pulse, hence why some days the overnights posted on here have them including +1 and other days they don't.
