Baba O'Reiley is one of my favourite songs. It used to function as my alarm clock for years - perfect way to start a day.

For a second division band they (ie Townshend) have produced more than their fair share of good tracks.

I love townshend. I'm a guitarist myself and my heros are Steve Vai, Satriani, Eddie Van Halen but I love Townsend. However I think that's I love 'The WHo' as a whole

Whereas I have never bought into Moon and Daltrey being anything other than run of the mill musicians. Entwhistle was the other keystone with Townshend.

Entwhistle?!!! Legend. One of the best bass players up there with Geezer Butler

I've never understoof why The Who get quite neglected in the history books and get seen as second-class musicians. They're behind only The Beatles, Queen and Bowie in my classic rock tables.

Queen? They were seen as third-rate in the 70s even during the second coming of Bohemian Rhapsody. It was only during the musical waste that was the 80s that they drifted to the top.

They did some great singles in the early years.........I'm a Boy, Can't Explain, Happy Jack, Pictures of Lily, My generation etc

I didn't really stick with them when they went all arty with their rock operas and so on

Oh, I know. I meant in the catalogue of the big well-remembered rock acts, that's my own personal ranking.

I find Tommy unlistenable to. Mainly because of the crap job the sound engineer did. But even the best sound engineer was on a loser with Oliver Reed.

really?... above led zep?

i think they get neglected because they evolved from mods into rock... abit of a duel identity... as rock goes id put them above the beatles, (but not in musical inovation, classic pop, etc). bowie was/is a great innovator but again who were bigger in the rock world. queen were just rock for non rock fans...

you spoke for me! lol... fully agree...

imho 'my generation' is possibly the teen anthem of all time, even above the hallowed 'teenage kicks'..(undertones)

I think 'The Who' are up there with 'Zep', 'The Stones' and 'The Beatles' but for some reason people don't see that. I mean 'Baba O'Riley' is one of the greatest rock songs ever. How old is that song??????? and it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. As soon as Daltery screams 'Out here in the fields!' after the amazing drum intro I am gone. AMAZING song. It blows me away every listen. Nothing touches song writing like that nowadays. If I could write a song like that I would gladly die tomorrow a happy man

I was going through old LP's at my Mums the other day and pulled out Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy. I'd never seen or heard of it before and laughed at the title, only to get a proper telling off from my Mum who informed me that it was by The Who I thought it was just some random cheese! Immaculate it was

My god. you listened to it? A ton of kudos to you Lora. The Who are basic music listening. They are up there with The Beatles but I may get shot for this, better than the Beatles in that they are a thinking mans band and more mature song writing than 'The Beatles'. I also am from Liverpool so saying that is a lot Saying a bloody cockney band are better than The Beatles hahahahhaha
