Looking for a TV for a relative who wants an easy recording solution post-switchover. Are there any models with built-in Freeview+ - i.e. not a separate box?? Ta.

In short, no.

There are some budget models from places like Tesco that allow you to record to a USB stick, or even hard drive. But they are single tuner, so you cannot record one channel and watch another etc. Whether one of these is OK depends on the screen size and other things your relative wants.

I read somewhere that JVC did TVs with integrated PVRs at one point, but not sure if they still do....

How about a model number. I can't find a single Freeview+ model in there catalogue. Plenty of Freeview-HD models but none plus compatible.

I know you said not a separate box but If it's set up properly then a separate box is just as easy. Use SCART with SCART control on and the TV will always go to the separate box on startup. Just use that with a universal remote control and there's no real advantage to having the HDD in the TV.

You'd think so, wouldn't you, but the relative in question (mother-in-law) will no doubt go dusting or moving stuff or fiddling or otherwise interfering with two boxes!

I bought a separate Freeview + box for my own parents, and they never know what they are watching, getting them confused, wondering why the telly hasn't recorded stuff etc etc

If anyone has a link to any current built-in models, I'd be very greatful.

I stand erected, it seems a couple of the big manufacturers do them as shown by the Panasonic above. It's not cheap though, most of the others seem to be smaller, no name models.

Toshiba have also recently launched a couple in Japen than can record to a USB connected HDD, we may see them in the UK at some time.

Only LG one I have read about that does it is an Australian model, anyone got a link to the UK model(s) ?.

TV's with recording to USB are not that uncommon. AFAIK none of them are Freeview+ recorders, they don't feature series and accurate recording and don't have twin freeview-HD tuners

Thanks to all. Think she might end up with separate box after all.

It's the best idea - you don't want "all your eggs in one basket".

If they get confused over what they are watching, the TV or the PVR you can detune the TV so the only TV signal is through the PVR (Best with a twin tuner). That way there is nothing to confuse them and they only have to use the PVR and it's remote....

A few years back, Humax made a couple of T.V's witha PVr in them, it was not Freeview plus as Freeview plus did not exist then.

i know someone who had one and it was unreliable the hard drive kept going wrong. a friend of theirs who used to fix T.v's had a look and came to the conclusion that the hard drive was in the wrong place and got over heated

Best to have a separate recorder, but I can see the point in having it all in one.
