Here's their review of the Beefeater in Torquay (Mark's javelin would fly right past it on the its way to the beach).

Since this has just opened we went there to check it out,and also to have a quickish business lunch..BAD MOVE!!
We arrived at 2.20pm and were shown fairly quickly to a table and given menus…at 2.40 someone finally arrived to ask if we wanted a drink…at 2.50 he came back to take our order, still no sign of the drinks but we had,by then had time to notice that all the glasses on the table were caked in lipstick and managed to make him understand that we wanted them removed and that the mature lady who was having the diet coke did not wish to drink it out of the bottle with a twirly straw!!
The starters arrived at 3.10 and were pleasant, the main courses then arrived at 3.30 and were a mixture of pleasant and over cooked,by now we were running out of time before we had to attend to other matters and so declined a sweet and asked for the bill…this finally arrived at 3.55.
In short;poor service in a dirty restaurant which was far from busy I should add so no obvious reason for the delays especially since everything is pre-portioned and prepared in this business.
If you want a decent steak, cooked the way you want it then pay a bit more and go to Mima’s Restaurant just up the road at The Grosvenor Hotel.

I don't know when Mima's closed. That review was from 2008.

I can't believe that Alison woman was only 40. I'd have said a lot older than that.

The staff and guests are a weird lot....and not in a good way. Did the 4 blokes in the steak house actually get their steaks or did they decamp to a proper restaurant? Mind you that is what you get when you are a tightwad manager and don't employ enough staff.

It did seem a bit odd that last week he was telling the one chef that she should be doing a hundred covers by herself, yet last night there seemed loads in the kitchen yet couldn't get the meals out

I think they have two restaurants on the go, serving at the same time.

Even with two restaurants on the go you would have thought they could have got the four blokes meals out, they only had steak and chips didn't they?.... Anyway, Mark says he could get 300 out on his own... I very much doubt they had over 300 people eating in the restaurants at the same time.

Ha ha ha, I thought it was just me that got a bit squeemish at that bit.

Otherwise, I absolutely love the show. The first series was good, but the second series, at the Grosvesnor, is simply sublime.

I know that some of the people there (ok, most) are not what you would describe as 'normal', but I think that's what makes it so entertaining to watch.

Mark is simply a living charicature, everything seems exaggerated because he lives at 100mph and probably thinks he is superman. That's exactly why I warmed to him from the very start, as, from what we have seen, he seems like a terrible person to work for in some ways, but still a fun, likeable, genuine guy nonetheless. (Although I'm not sure why he disliked the wedding planner so much,)

The Hotel is the best show on TV. Mark is an absolute genius - I love him! He is very endearing and underneath his mad-seeming exterior, an inspired businessman. Everyone laughed at the concept of Dolphin racing, and when the end of that show it showed everyone having fun and the families bonding thanks to it, I thought it was actually quite moving!

So many amazing lines various characters have come out with, too.

My current favourite is Mark's mum saying that if Mark could, he wouldn't eat meals, he'd eat three pills. One for meat, one for vegetables and one for gravy!

Gravy - the third food group.

Mill miss this series. Give the Grosvenor another run!

Poundland!

Mark doesn't look very well to me - sort of more grey. Maybe just winter and lack of sun.
