There are a few now on the market and lots more in the pipeline.

They should solve the multi-tasking lag problem (which Apple don't allow anyway), but might be hell in terms of battery consumption.

HTC have a new phone with a 1,2Ghz dual core processor running android 2.3 exclusive to Vodafone next month. It should be a stunning performer if their previous offerings are anything to go by. It might be a premium product but unlike Apple's phones it will be on a standard price plan, so no loss of call time, SMS, or data for the monthly fee.

I'm just not convinced what noticeable benefits dual-core will really have apart from gaming ... and playing any graphically intensive game on your phone is one certain way to have emptied the battery by mid afternoon. It's battery technology that desperately needs attention, not processor speed.

My contract is up for renewal, so I will more than likely get a new dual core smartphone. If it gets good reviews, probably the HTC Sensation.

Totally agree. I'd much rather have a phone with a slightly slower (and cheaper) processor and larger battery. This would mean I could do all the normal things all day e.g. browsing without worrying about battery life.

I'd rather do the above than have to worry about battery life and ration my usage for the small benefit that when I do use things, it's really fast.

Not me. I have read reviews for both LG Optimus 2X and HTC Sensation and according to both reviews, the software that powers these phones is very juddery.

I was but in the end just got a Nexus S.

Right now I don't see the need for them and reckon it will be 6 months before dual core apps become more mainstream.

I'm sure my next phone will be one, but just not for another year or so.

I am in two minds at the moment, i really like the look of the sony ericcson peria arc, and have heard good things about it especially the camera, which is one of the things i am looking for in my next phone.

But then i don't know whether to wait another two weeks and go for the samsung galaxy s2 which sounds like a amazing phone as well and which is dual core.

I have also read that at the moment it is a waist of time paying the extra £100, because there will be nothing for a little while that takes advantage of the dual core proccesor, apart from games, and i don't really play games anyway.

I will eventually upgrade, but only in a year or two's time when there may be some additional useful features on a phone. As nice as it is to have the latest and greatest model, I really can't see the benefit of upgrading just at the moment.

Having bought a Desire HD off contract around 6 months or so ago. I doubt I will be purchasing a dual core phone just yet. However I can see me having one by the end of the year.

The iPad 2 feels faster than my iPhone 4 and considering they are both running the same OS you feel the benefits of dual core. I look forward to the next iPhone with the Apple A5 SoC.

Lets not get confused with thinking dual core = power hungry. In fact, due to the smaller die size and optimised processing of a dual core SoC, you will see considerable power savings by using a dual core chip than by using a comparative single core chip with the same hardware. You should see better battery life on the Sensation than you would on the Desire HD, for example, which is a fair comparison as they both have the same screen size and similar other components. The Galaxy S2 should have best-in-class battery life due to the highly optimised Exynos SoC and Super AMOLED screen.
