Mobile Phone With External Antenna
Mig15

Hopefully someone can help with a bit of a problem I have.
I need to set up a demo with a mobile phone (dont ask why please!) but need to feed the output of the handest into test equipment and not the built in antenna.

Some of the old car kits had the ability to attach an external antenna. Are there any "modern" (3G / Edge) handsets that have a the ability to connect an external antenna?

Even if it doesn't have an external connector, you can always use an Antenna Coupler (this is attached to the outside of the phone case directly over the internal aerial and is normally used to attach an external aerial)

Interested to know what this test equipment is that can simulate the response from a base station (or you won't get anything useful from the phone) but doesn't have a way of connecting to the phone?

To save anyone else asking - Why?

The test gear I need to demo is usually fitted inside a screened chamber and simulates a base station.

I have been asked to rig up a quick demo to a larger audience so I'm looking for a way of connecting direct to the handset though a diplexer & suitable attenuators.

The alternative (and expensive & time consuming) is to apply for a Test & Development licence but as this is a one-off demo it's not worth the hassle!

That makes sense, you can certainly use an Antenna coupler at the handset end of a cable. What are you using at the other end ? (Sorry to be nosey)!

Because it's a two way process. In very basic terms the handset needs a response from a base station on some 'clear' frequency before it does anything.
