Or just use flash blockers on their computers and actually just don't.

Why would anyone want to block large parts of the Internet?

There are 3 websites I visit regularly that use flash in their code (aside from crappy advertising). All 3 of those sites have iPhone optimised versions. If I need to visit them on an iPhone, or my HTC Hero which doesn't have flash support, then the mobile optimised version appears.

I play Farmville on my iPhone - it has an app, so again, no flash required. I've never missed it on either of my phones, I've never been in a situation where I needed to see something and couldn't, and that's why there's no need for flash on the iOS devices, certainly where I'm concerned.

Flash on the iphone is a real debate. I detest flash and think it's an awful platform. If I ever have problems on my laptop I can almost guaratee that I'll find it's a flash advert or app that's hogging the CPU. So, anything that means more websites move to other technologies gets the thumbs up from me.

However, I also hate the way Apple control the platform and their anti-competitive practices and would like to see flash on iOS if only to annoy Jobs.

As I said, a dilemma!

The risk of preaching what Apple says is that you look very stupid when Apple changes its mind!

The best solution is to let Adobe work to release a decent Flash plugin, but allow the user to disable Flash if they think it is an issue.

I can do this with my Android device. If I want Flash, I install the plugin and enable it. Those who don't, don't have to have it.

But we all know that Apple is now the antithesis of their 1984 ad.

I don't miss it.

I don't need it for YouTube, don't need it for iPlayer, and don't need it for TVCatchup. What few other video sites I visit have non-Flash versions available.

Flash games... I never play them anyway on my desktop, so don't miss them on the iPad.

Flash adverts... Not something I want to see anyway (& always blocked on my desktop).

Flash websites... horrendous things I always avoid on my desktop, so also do not miss on the iPad.

It would be nice to be able to watch the TV catch up services of the other channels eg, ITV Player, demand 5, 4OD etc. Perhaps these will come in time. That's the only stuff I really miss TBH. I'm not really bothered about Flash games etc.

Professional webmasters will monitor where their traffic comes from. If they see that a large percentage of their traffic comes via iOS devices, then they will make provision for that.
