Anyone on here think Kim Wilde was underrated and unappreciated? i do. I mean she did produce some good records with a mixture of genres from New Wave to Rock. From Rock to Pop. Then she persued gardening which was a complete waste of her talents.

Some of her singles were great i mean 'You Came', 'Never Trust a Stranger' were all ace singles. The standout for her was 'Kids in America' as it was her pioneering single.

Love her to appear on SCD as she's disappeared of the map recently and needs to get her recognition back.

I'm not sure what you mean by underrated. She had worldwide success including an American no 1 single with You Keep Me Hanging On.

You Came is one of THE songs of the 80's and I never tire of hearing it. I remember it getting to no 3 and willing it to be no 1 but it wasn't to be.

I listen to her stuff a couple of times every week and she has a really strong back catologue.

I love World In Perfect Harmony. A great little pop song.

She quit music to have her family, then turned to gardening before going back to music.

Perhaps her popularity has not lasted and spread itself to newer generations of music followers like other artists like, The Beatles, Madonna and even Kylie Minogue have managed to do. She did not last long enough when she was at the height of her popularity and therefore she does have a lasting legacy. But I quite like her especially her Christmas cover of 'Rockin around the Christmas Tree' with Mel Smith. The video just takes me back to the 80's and reminds me of the times when Christmas hampers were all the rage.

To be fair she was worse live than her dad...but had some decent sized hits in her day.

Agree with what koneybyvax says about that she had some decent hits. Her stuff did have the potential to grow on you.

I still play her hits

"Hey Mr Heartache" is a fairly unknown track but one of my favourites.

I know it's a bit of a cliche but Kim's always come across as really down-to-earth as well.

More a pun than a cliche. But I do agree.

i think she did really well. so many good songs. kids in america, just classic.

she had amazing highs. hits in america. supported michael jackson with the bad tour.

i guess everything has its time. i personally dont think she was underrated.

anyone hear that quite recent duet she did with nena of `99 red balloons ` fame?

i dont think shes underrated.... i think shes remembered for what she was... a female pop artist who had a string of pretty respectable hits.

I must admit I only remember 'Kids In America' - that was pretty good. Oh, and some dreadful xmas record with Mel Smith.

I'm a huge fan - thanks to the Cherry Pop re-issues I now have all her albums on CD....hoping they continue with 2CD editions of Close, Love Moves, Love Is and Now & Forever.

Fave singles - Hey Mr Heartache, Four Letter Word, The Second Time, Heart Over Mind, Chequered Love, View From A Bridge, Child Come Away (should've made the top 10!!), and the stunning Cambodia

Album tracks - Love (Send Him Back To Me), Too Late, Stone, Ego, Dream Sequence, Forgive Me, Storm In Our Hearts, In Hollywood, You'll Never Be So Wrong, Chaos At The Airport, Words Fell Down, Is It Over...

and near the top of my all time Kim chart Turn It On - from the soundtrack of Weird Science - now added to Teases & Dares and hopefully getting the recognition it deserves

A bit underrated I'd say. Her early stuff from 81-84 is her finest I think but all her 80's work is pretty good. I suppose she found it hard to have much chart success after that so she ended only being remember as an artist of a certain era.

Anyway, some of her albums are quality and don't really get any recognition now or at the time really.
Select (82), Catch as Catch Can (83) and Close (88) are her best albums I think.
Fave singles are Water On Glass, View From a Bridge, Never Trust a Stranger, The Second Time and Cambodia.

Her brother had a lot to do with her success i think he is underated to, i like her stuff thougheverything from Chequered love to rage to love and even Four letter word is a good pop tune.

She lost me a bit when Stock aitkin and waterman got their evil hands on her but she has a great voice, very distinctive.

You make not like which is fair enough but you can't call her overrated when the critics never went OTT about her in the first place.
