This is even happening on some blogs, sites, mags, papers, shows, etc, where the writers or presenters seemed to have expected Adam's fans to just move onto James as fans of some previous contestants have moved onto pther contestants in the past.

I agree that for me James is more suited to fronting a group

I'm a huge Adam fan but I don't mind James ... I really like some of his performances (I loved Maybe I'm Amazed) and others I'm not keen on

I can see where there are some similarities to Adam, the rock wail thing and he sometimes dresses a bit like him (his outfit tonight was quit Adamesque) .. but they are dfferent types of performers and I can't see James producing the same genre music as Adam when AI is over ... I don't see him as a threat to Adam at all and even if he was there's room for everyone to have their bash in the industry to good luck to him

He's earned my respect. Your favourite band is Muse? James is at least as good a vocalist as Matt Bellamy, who is a himself a poor imitation of Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke.

I was actually trying to empathise with you until you came out with that bizarre comment. There is more to being a good vocalist that just being able to shout and scream. Bellamy has an instantly recognizable voice and vocal style, James sounds more generic and could be one of many people currently fronting rock bands. I'm not saying you're wrong to respect him if that's what you like, but you can't expect everyone else to agree with you.

Some Adam fans see him as a threat to Adam - it's clear to see.

I'm interested to know - what singers DO you people like? I want to know what your listening standards are.”

James is about as metal as a cheese straw. He doesn't have the voice for metal and his main influence is Paul McCartney. The guy has found out he can scream (can't we all?) and thinks that makes him a metal singer.

What do you mean this isn't X Factor we're talking about? What a ridiculous thing to say.

Why should Adam's fans see someone so mediocre as a threat? Personally Jacob is far more comparable in terms of vocal ability and a couple of the others far more comparable in other terms.

James is at least as good a vocalist as Matt Bellamy? I don't know how to respond seriously to something so ridiculous.

You're interested to know about others' listening standards? After saying James is as good as Matt Bellamy? Priceless.

im sorry but had to reply to this bit of stupidity!! No way is James anywhere near as good as Matt Bellamy!! Who is the lead singer of a multi award winning band, a band that has sold millions of albums, who has sold out tours over the world!! i think James would actually laugh at the comparison tbh because he has the greatest of respect for Matt he said himself. Poor imitation of Jeff Buckley don't make me laugh!!

Adam Lambert, clearly. Because there isn't room for them both and James doesn't deserve to be there

I'm interested to know - what singers DO you people like? I want to know what your listening standards are.”

Who do i love? Adam Lambert, Muse for two and you know what i love James and i think this sniping is just ridiculous!!

I know what makes a good vocalist, and I don't expect anyone to agree with me - I just feel like James deserves at least some basic respect, and even some credit.

My X Factor comment was to demonstrate that there is actually quite a high standard between these AI finalists this year - you couldn't get to the top 7 if you weren't good enough.

What is so special about Matt Bellamy? Yes, his voice is recognizable and very suited to the music Muse make. It's nothing special though. I'm not saying James' is either though, just to clarify.

Some of my own favourite vocalists/frontmen:-

Arnel Pineda(Steve Perry too)
Bruce Dickinson
Ronnie James Dio(RIP)
Robert Plant
Myles Kennedy
Eddie Vedder
Adam Lambert

Pick them apart if you like.

I thought Haley was fantastic. I was thinking that she would sound great singing something by Amy Winehouse, but she did a really good job of Adele's song. I would love to see her in the final 3.

The group song at the start of the show was horrendous! I cringed for Paul, he sounded terrible.

Jacob did a great job, shame the band stitched him up at the beginning, but he got back on track.

Loved the VT's and the Idols taking the pee out of each other.

Ryan continues to crack me up. The beard also made him look very Amish

So in summary:

Casey and Haley great, the rest forgettable

AL has no place in this thread, he is sooo last year and has his own DS thread.

Thank You

Voted the second best lead singer of a British band ever in a poll that ran over the course of a year.

Yeah, I'm sorry - I was probably the main person to derail this thread. Can't really be bothered to argue and debate any more. My only problem is that I don't feel James gets enough respect or credit on here, but clearly that isn't going to change.

Tonight I liked James, Haley and Casey.

Was it NME? I bet it was.

Who was number 1?

Absolutely laughable if he's ahead of Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Ian Gillan, Paul Rodgers etc. But if it is indeed NME, it's no wonder.

I haven't had a favourite so far this season, I have enjoyed some individual performances by contestants though. The last couple of weeks I've really enjoyed Haley's performances she is really growing on me. I've probably just given her the kiss of death though

Agreed, James was pretty good actually.

Don't mind Lauren or Stefano going tonight, Scotty and Jacob need to choose better songs.

I think Stefano's time has come, and he'll go tonight.

I think I know the poll CS is referring to and it wasn't NME but I can't remember what the site was or who won. I remember thinking at the time that I was surprised but that the guy was a very good singer but I can't remember now who it was. I remember Matt Bellamy being second though. It was about a year ago.

I'm going to be racking my brains now until I remember who it was and what the site was

Neither, I just don't rate much music from the last 10/15 years - they did have music before then you know.

Two years ago actually Though I can't blame anyone for brain wiping the whole of season 9 and there is no place for the AL/JD comparisons in the appreciation thread

There's no place for goading, taunting and gratuitous criticism in appreciation threads either. That didn't stop the person in question though. Several days of enforced silence followed.
