Just bought a new LG tv which has internet capacity, (you tube, bbc i player etc) it states on their web site that can either connect direct to router via ethernet cable, or via wireless usb dongle.

cant really do the ethernet cable as its a tv for upstairs and the router is down stairs, so want to do wireless

Do i need to get a dongle of the same make as the Sky Broadband router (Sagem) ? or the tv? or will any make work?

just wondering what would work the best to connect, or would any dongle work

also as i have a secured wireless network, needing to put in a code to add new laptops etc, would i still be able to connect it??

From doing a bit of random lurking on the LG website I have a feeling only something like this will work.

http://www.lg.com/uk/tv-audio-video/...G-AN-WF100.jsp

No mention of what if any WiFi security it supports however.

Might be easier to be more specific if you post the model number of your telly.

Have you considered homeplugs?

Simple plug and go and more reliable than wireless.

Home-plugs use the house wiring to send the signal from the router around the houses mains electricity supply.Simply plug an ethernet cable from the router to one of the home-plugs plug into the nearest wall socket , plug another home-plug upstairs connect another ethernet cable into the home-plug and connect to your tv ethernet port and then set your tv for wired internet access.

Better idea would be to go for a wireless range extender - like this - http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/produc...WN2000RPT.aspx

It authenticates to your main router... and has Ethernet ports as well.

I bought one of these Link a few weeks ago and it works perfectly. It's very easy to connect to your wireless router and there are four ethernet ports on the back to connect to various devices, I have mine connected to my TV and also my blu ray player.

one thing,

Make sure you are on the Sky Unlimited broadband package as the IPTV usage can eat up limited allowances.
