I agree - she's an amazing actress and is proving to be a great domineering character so far... long live Sylvia!
![]() I don't like to think of her as Blanche reincarnated, because that's really an insult to both Maggie Jones and Stephanie Cole... instead I think it's better to think of both of them coming from the same Corrie 'battleaxe' mould that gave us the brilliant Ena Sharples and Maud Grimes |

She's undoubtably cut from the same cloth as Blanche but through the writing and Stephanie Cole's performance Sylvia will definitely become her own character.

Hmmm Noone will ever come close to Blanche, she is a legend but Sylvia does look very promising.

Stephanie Cole has made an immediate impact in Corrie. Compare and contrast with the anonymous Frank Kelly in Emmerdale.

Don't really get why anybody is saying she is Blanche reincarniated or the new Blanche.
I believe the fact is Sylvia is not Blanche and never will be, though I agree she is very similar and looks to be a promising "replacement" battleaxe. Sylvia is more like Diana Trent from Waiting for God, though played by the same actress. I reckon Aunt Sal or possibly the new Lydia from Eastenders are more like Blanche because they would come out with a hilarious cutting remark without trying to be funny. Sylvia looks more forbidding than Blanche, a very stern woman you wouldn't want to cross. If Sylvia is being touted about as the new Blanche then I feel sorry for Stephanie Cole if she fails to live up to viewers' hopes because they expect her to be like Blanche. I bet at some point a forum member will start a new thread complaining about Sylvia being a Blanche-rip off or being upset about her not being like Blanche at all... I agree Sylvia is a brilliant and strong character to join the line of the Street's best battleaxes after Ena Sharples, Blanche Hunt etc. |
