That's a very weird schedule. But I am psyched to get an air date. Brilliant!

How soon do we reckon the website's gonna update with the new candidates? We must be getting trailers soon, actually.

Really glad this is coming back! The short gap between this and the last series reminded me of the delay of the last series because of Lord Sugar's role for Labour.

How long after that series was filmed was it broadcast on TV?

"New series. The stakes are raised even higher as this year's hopeful entrepreneurs compete for a £250,000 investment to start their own company - with Alan Sugar as their business partner. The 16 contestants get off to a flying start when they are sent to New Covent Garden Market, where they are given £250 to invest in fresh fruit and vegetables. The teams race to secure the best produce at the lowest price, before using their ingredients to make tempting juices, fruit salads and pasta meals to cater for London's hungry workforce. First of a double bill to kick off the new series, continuing tomorrow."

I want to see the new candidates!

I think a lot of them will be older than usual. I worked in Covent Garden for a bit, and have seen quite a few Apprentice contestants around there in the middle of a task. They seem to go there once every series!

(with the exception of last year) It's usually starting in April, isn't it?

Does anyone know when this series was filmed? Was it last autumn as usual?

And is the change of prize due to Stella still being only partway through her year, and AS not wanting to have two apprentices in his organisation at the same time?

Unlikely.

I think Sugar is running down his business interests to concentrate on his property portfolio.

This move is a good idea because now we all know what he's looking for in the finalist: Someone who can start and grow a new business.

In previous years we haven't known the role the winner will take so it's been hard to see the logic behind some of his decisions. Did he want a salesperson, an organiser, a negotiator, or an ideas person? You would get an inkling by the end of the series but is wasn't really satisfactory.

I hadn't thought of it like that, but it makes sense. I also wondered if the finalists had to pitch an idea as part of the selection process? Otherwise he could end up with someone who can grow a business, but who is not the type of person to come up with an idea for one!

Still looking forward to it.

From the Radio Times web site:

"Alan Sugar challenges the candidates to design, launch and promote a new mobile phone application, and sell it to three leading technology websites. The hopefuls also have to persuade bloggers and software experts at a major gaming fair to support their product and increase downloads."

At the end of March, but they delayed the upcoming series to have enough time between it and Series 6 (both were shot in the autumn as always, but we all know the political story behind the time shifts).

The junior version will probably air somewhere around August/September.

Yes but the winner for this prize ought to be the person with the best idea - not the most competent or the best salesman or the most like LAS.. The problem is that they should walk in with the idea - as there's going to be no time to work one up in the margins of the tasks - so you could pick the winner on day one. Worse , if you still fire on results in tasks, or even after the usual period of the last two working for LAS, you could end up with a winner who could well at everything else but couldn't find a big idea to spend the prize on. The best prospect with the best idea may go home early because they made one howler in a task. You also have the issue what happens at the interview stage selection if you have a show where the best idea actually belongs to someone who has been weakest at tasks, has the weakest CV and doesn't interview well. Its going to be interesting how they get around all that.

I would imagine that they will have picked people who actually have good, viable, business ideas.

It would be pretty stupid to do otherwise.

Of course, we could still end up with the situation that AS has picked the winner or 2/3 potential winners and is then just picking off the rest when he gets the chance which would leave us in exactly the same boat as before - not having a clue as to the real reason he's firing competent people and sparing idiots.

Ah, we live in interesting times.

Yes. They were seen filming on Sept 28th, 2010, for example.

From the Radio Times web site:

"Alan Sugar meets the teams at the Savoy Hotel in London, where he challenges them to source 10 products for its reopening. Under the supervision of Nick Hewer and Karren Brady, the candidates struggle to find the unusual items at bargain prices, and face a last-minute rush to complete the task and present their purchases to the hotel's general manager for inspection."

Hmmm - nothing stunningly original in the tasks so far then:
1 - buy fruit 'n veg and make it into something to sell.
2 - develop an app, market it.
3 - The classic buy 10 items for as little as possilbe.

The app development seems radical when first read, but really is no different to 'develop a new ice cream flavour' or 'develop a new beach product'

Perhaps task 4 should be 'create a stunningly original task for a business orientated reality telly show'

Many of the tasks are similar - buy meat, sell it at a market, make ice cream, chocolate, cake, sell it, pick a new toy or invention, market it or do a presentation to industry leaders, create a tv advert for a new product. Pretty much everything you see on the Apprentice had been done before in earlier series.

It would be cool to see this year's apprentices head off to America for a challenge, somewhere like New York. Last series they went to Germany and in an earlier series they went to North Africa.

Changing the prize makes this series a bit different so that helps but I can't imagine the tasks will be much different to previous series. One idea worth considering could be a task where Sugar gets involved - he actively helps both teams. Something like that could add a new twist to a task. Another idea could be a time limit for a task. For example, part of the task has to be done within a certain length of time and if someone fails they automatically get eliminated from the rest of the task! Stuff like that could mix it up a bit.
