Not quite ready
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After speaking with John Lewis and posting here I began to feel slightly edgy about this. What if the delightful sounding Susie had simply said to Panasonic that I had a problem with the sound? Panasonic may have replied about some fix they have for a problem I haven't discovered yet!

I find the Panasonic website a nightmare so instead I rang them this morning and described the problem in as much detail as I thought necessary for total unambiguity. Yes, they have a fix for exactly that problem. But Susie was not quite right in saying that they were simply waiting for a transmission slot, they're still testing. Current estimate is that it will be released within 3 weeks.

I'm tuned in to Sandy Heath from Leighton Buzzard. Half of people here go for that with others opting for Crystal Palace.

Seems more appropriate to start a specific thread on any issues that folks are having.
What indications are you getting S2000 when you look at the 'Signal Condition Facility'?

Who are you referring to? don't understand your thread.

Mea Culpa Janet..
Having lived in the deep caverns of the SAT forums .. the HUmax worshippers section thereof..
it was quite common to start any problem chasing with reference to the programme which originated the observed feature/Bug..
I did so here with a reference to 'Waterloo Road'..but realised that possibly it was NOT the way to go..
Luckily S2000 picked up my starter and hence I thought it would be useful to start a new Thread..relative to the new issue of the Panasonic TVs..Please forgive a doddery old man..
Must do a bit more wallpwapering but meanwhile... Could I ask..
Have you had any problems yet.. as despite working at Goonhilly some 40 years ago.. I cannot use the USB recording with any degree of certainty..

My quote was from S2000 as seemingly we share an audio issue.. on HD channels only and it would be helpful to know which Region you are in and if you too exoerience issues in that area?

Looking forward to hearing from you

Janet - Stan's got a couple of issue's here. One is difficulty with recording and the other (where I come in) is an intermittent problem with sound on the HD channels - you can see the details here http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1458400

I'll be updating that thread as news of the firmware update emerges.

Thanks s2000 for elucidating further
I have now got a run of the mill PC world 300G Hard drive recording in the USB slot..but only from the Guide..
Instant -Record etc still baffles me..
Has anyone managed more than this?

Obviously I am a spoilt 'Humax Sat Brat' ...as i get so frustrated.. when in an attempt to Fast Forward the ADS..whilsy watching a playback
the ONLY Option is 5Minutes at atime forward and then 5Minutes backwards.. obviously to wait out the ADS..
..
In passing..
Whilst watching recording of Derren Brown.. there were 2 sessions of about 1 minute each.. when the 'Seashore-Wave sounds'
flooded out two quiet conversations in a total Programmme length of 90Minutes..
Does anyone know if the passage of Airplanes through the transmission line of sight would have this affect??
The picture remained perfection throughout..And as
Even Janet's[ That;s my wife's name too Janet ]Free Sky SD progs look better than on the old Plasma..the set is not going back [Yet]!

Interference does not tend to be that selective. It is not completely impossible for just the audio bits in the data stream to be affected, just highly unlikely. Much more likely to get random zapping of picture and sound.

Plus all interference can really do is randomly change bit values from 1 to 0 or vice versa. Doing so tends to produce unholy spats and bangs not hissing type noises. And certainly not hissing noises behind the existing audio track.

That sounds more like a fault in the audio stages of the telly than anything else.

Most helpful..as you probably know..Last year Panny ran into trouble with their freeview HD sets and in re-issued some as SAT HD only..
S2000 and I are in the early stages of looking into the matter.. it could well be that the new sets needs full strength quality for adequate audio..
But even if not.. is it a bug that would normally respond to an over the air update i wonder?

Signal strength on digital does not have quite the same effect on quality as analogue. While it is true that a weak analogue signal may cause excess noise on the audio the same is not true of digital.

All digital is is a string of binary numbers. Provided those binary numbers can be received correctly the signal is irrelevant. Once the signal degrades to the point where those binary numbers can no longer be reliably received the effect is very obvious. Randomly changing odd ones and zeros in those numbers produces bursts of random colour in images and clicks and splats in audio.

Hisses and noises behind the audio that were not broadcast indicate a fault in the audio stages of the TV. Whether that can be solved with a software upgrade is a question only Panasonic can answer. Assuming that is that they acknowledge a fault exists in the first place and can work out it's cause if they do. And then it will depend on what part of the circuit is at fault. If it is a dodgy IC then I doubt a software update will cure it, only a hardware change would do that.

Thanks,,I'm running at 85%Strength and about 65%Quality on HD channels with ZERO Error rate..BUT 100% all SD channels..Hoping to tart up the Aerial to see if that improves matters..
It would appear that even the best Review Labs only go thru the motions over audio and want to enthuse over the screen excellence etc.. as they all did last year with this set's predecessor..
It was only at the start of this year that Panasonic suddenly issued the BA series.. unknown seemingly even to Good Quality managers at Lewis's ..and ignored by Reviewers waiting for the New Models...
and forgot to notify their own website which said to questions.. 'Not Ours'..
Again in this year the reviewers say..'Hard to see how they can ever make it better 'Brill' and it is self evidently so from mine..except for the audio..
A pig of as job to go to any stores and sort out a good one..perhaps Richer sounds or like will see the thread and confirm a problem and thus prevent a reisue of another 'BA' series in the near future?
I will try to understand if you are able to explain how the excellence of the audio on the Sat HD channels is almost commonplace and yet Freeview HD by a top TV performer seems to be so fraught with problems for them.. Is there a substantial difference in the Tuner Specs perhaps which was not recognised when they were drawn up?..

Concerning this sound problem, someone has posted this on the Radio and Telly forum:

"Panasonic have emailed me with a schedule for download of software fix for this problem. It is from 9th May via internet or SD card, and at defined time slots between 11th -20th for over air download on Freeview."

Delighted to read that Steve...Janet is ever so pleased that after the Royal wedding from the HUMAX the OLD SKY box produces such first class pictures on the Panny..although she watched Waterloo Road from the Humax .. as she rather likes the sound from the rear speakers..
It's mostly the 'SUB' that doing it's stuff but i don't tell her that.
Am Hammering the PC world 500G drive with DEJAVU which I've never watched before after progging in the Search for Top of the Pops.. and the old WW2 films.. all free.. Brill..
I am happy and keen to try the USB slot UD method..so please advise further when you have more details ..
Then it'll be the bestest TV I've ever owned..hopefully

I've downloaded the firmware update from Panasonic's site and installed it. Tested an HD channel for about 90 minutes and it looks to have fixed the problem.

The only side-effect seems to be that I now have a 3.5 second delay when switching to "Guide". I suppose I'll get accustomed to that.

Glad to hear that S2000..
I too can confirm over THREE hours of OK sound on the HD channels this evening after the Update..
Optical Cable on order to test from the TV output to Home Cinema..
Like you my GUIDE has a delay of about 3 seconds now before it appears..

Could have had 2 Cheapos from Argos for the same cost BUT this set exudes quality..
and the extras like UTube make me happy i bought it..
I must find someone to SKYPE!!

S2000 The "over the air" software update is now running but where did you download the software to presumably put on a SD card from ?

S2000 - thanks for that , theres a lot on there for other models as well . Worth looking at for TV's that may have missed any over the air updates !
