h264 iplayer?
Just tried to watch tuesdays blue peter and the picture was artefact central! , clicked on the file info and mentions that it's only running at 796kbps.
I'm no technology master but this is abysmal versus the tv broadcast standard equivilent. |

Yeah, this is sadly becoming common for iPlayer. Only the HD stuff is guaranteed to be decent quality.
You should be able to download a WMV version in better quality though. |

iPlayer has three quality settings and selects dynamically depending on the quality of your connection. That's the lower one, because your connection is showing up as too slow to support the higher one without buffering.

Along the bottom of the playing video are 5 icons, the centre one gives the option to play a "larger" window.
Click on it and the display will grow in size and bitrate to 1500kbps. You can still go fullscreen on this and it looks very good. |
