I am getting tried of the same thing over and over again with Scotty. I feel like all his songs have been exactly the same. I can't tell the difference between them.

He really needs to switch it up.

In America he's the Tim Urban of this year, as in all the teenage girls mass-voting for him because he's "cute".

Unfortunately, I can't see him not winning !

Totally agree

Apparently both Scotty and Lauren are topping the votes each week, so unless disaster strikes, it will be a Scotty and Lauren final.

I don't think it will be a Scotty/Lauren final.

At the minute there are 2 country acts and 4 non-country acts.

With the more non-country acts that go, the more votes the final non-country acts will get, meaning there'll probably be 1 country vs 1 non-country in the final.

But Scotty, unfortunately, is going to take it. :/

He's beyond tedious, not one of his performances has been memorable for me.
If/when he wins, he'll probably be the worst winner yet.

I cant see that he's cute.. he gives me the creeps.

But he is a country artist so he will always seem the same. Thats the way it is... but you could say the same for robert plant... or jimmy hendrix or bob marley

NOT that I'm saying he is in that class but sameyness is very common.

I can't see it either, he looks like someone out of South Park... but to each their own.

Personally I've found his C&W to be soporific. The only time he came alive and seemed 17 instead of 65 was when he did Elvis. Suddenly he developed some sexual 'swagger'.

This week's song was a poor choice for him, and he delivered his weakest performance to date. I can't see him being in the bottom three though.

The real danger for someone like Scotty is that while they're good in small doses they will tend to pale against other more dynamic singers when it gets to 2 songs, and 3 in the Final.

The only person I've felt certain will make it to the Final, and have said this for 6 weeks now, is James. Imagine a Scotty versus James final - unless Scotty delivers another cool Elvis-type performance, to make him less 1-dimensional, then I don't think the C&W fans will be enough to give him victory if he did 3 C&W songs which all sounded the same to everyone else. It would make it seem like he wasn't really trying; that he didn't deserve to win.

I cannot comprehend how Lauren survives each week! She's a poor man's Jordin Sparks, never had a single 'moment', never a night where she was the best, or was even one of the best.

I bet Lauren isn't, just can't see it.
I reckon she was just off bottom 3 last week, they gave her the pimp spot this week with a very average performance.

He has very broad appeal, most Americans I know (friends & family) support Scotty so if the teens are really going for him too then yes he will win!

I read an article on the 'tweens' favourite being Casey & Lauren.

He reminds me of boy pop singers from the 1950s, so I love him because he reminds me of my youth.

Tim didn't win though so where does that leave you theory?

Scotty is the strong favourite (and by many accounts running away with it) because he's not just cute, though nowhere near as cute as Tim, but he's also very good, particularly for a boy of 17. How many 17 year olds do you know with that tone and with that ability to relate the content of a song?

I find it hard to see him not winning and I'm more than happy about it.

The difference is I'm far from alone in being someone who couldn't possibly dislike Country more but really likes Scotty or in being a rock fan who would rather boil their own head than see or hear that caterwauling walking gimmick.

That's exactly it. Scotty has big support across the age groups.

The problem is the show's producers and the record company don't want a Country winner. They want James at all costs but Scotty is so popular that throwing him under the bus is going to be hard.

I'm not a country music fan so his style doesn't appeal to me .. I also don't find him cute (he reminds me of a cross between Pob and one of the Brady Bunch) and whilst I appreciate he has a decent and unusual voice for his age I find it dreary and Val Doonican-like ..

Keith Urban's more like the country singers I like

A lot of people in the States thinks he looks like the boy from the original MAD magazine:

you know what you come across as a not very nice person sometimes both on this thread and others. scotty is far from may favorite but i dont call him names and spout the venom you do about James!

Scotty has sounded the same on each of his songs, and the annoying thing is i think if he was braver with his choices he could do something different and do it well but it seems like he isnt prepared to do that really.

As for James, he wasnt my favorite, that was Paul (cue nasty remarks i guess) however i am a MASSIVE rock and metal fan and have seen some wonderful wonderful bands live (Iron Maiden, G & R, Metallica, Kiss, Muse, Bon Jovie etc) and i ADORE James!! He is not a caterwauling gimmick he is good at the genre he is trying to sing!! His While my Guitar Gently Weeps showed a different side of him and hes shown far more versatility than Scotty has up to now

I think Scotty has a great voice and personality, especially for his age, and I know the contestants aren't always responsible for their song choices. I'm sure Scotty could pull off a few more different types of performance within his genre, loved hi take on Elvis!

No nasty remarks from me. Paul wasn't the best singer in the competition but he was suited to what he was trying to do and knows his strengths and limitations. On top of which he was very likeable.

James on the other hand doesn't and the fawning and dishonesty of the judges isn't helping him at all. He would benefit from being told when he's attempting things he isn't capable of. Those high notes (or should I say that high note?) this week were the most uncomfortable they've ever been to watch and listen to.

As a rock fan, I struggle to understand how you can appreciate that. I have to agree with BLB. James' biggest problem is that he was already a cliche and the show's styling and direction are making him even more so instead of improving it.

WMGGW was his best performance by a long way but its stripped downness exposed the limitations and failings in his voice. It was a good performance because he conveyed the song for once. Almost the opposite of Pia strangely enough who was eliminated that week - 90% note perfect 90% of the time but absolutely no connection with the lyrics.

In the past the contestants have been responsible for their song choices all but two weeks. Not this year though so it gives the show a whole lot more control. All part of the agenda I suppose.

I think they'd love Scotty to win. Scotty would definitely sell records, and is probably the most likely to sell a lot of records out of all the contestants this year, regardless of whether he wins or not. The last couple of winners have flopped, so Scotty would probably be the ideal winner for both the show's producers and the record label who signs up the winners. Also, the producers have been working hard to swing the young/tween votes in his favour lately. Last week they had a little girl introduce him before his VT/performance, the week before that they ushered a group of young girls on stage to hug him after his performance.

You'd think so wouldn't you? I agree totally about Scotty's commercial potential but from what I've heard they want two things:

A male straight rock singing winner (the main reason they brought in Steven and the production team and no weekly mentors)
A winner that will have international potential which is unlikely in the Country genre.

I don't know if this is what Acashoonhey is referring to,

I don't think they'd object to James winning either, but I think Scotty has a lot more potential to sell a lot of albums. I guess with James winning they could add rock/metal to the list of genres to have won the show - they already have a country winner. And yeah, country music is only really popular in America so that might be another reason they'd prefer someone else to win. But I honestly think Scotty would sell more albums in the US alone than any of the other contestants could worldwide.
