I've started doing some cooking provided it all fits in the oven

How long does baked spud take?

I usually microwave them - but i'm thinking 1/2 hour wrapped in foil then 15 minutes to crust them up

btw i'm doing Spuds, Sausages and baked beans all in the oven

It depends on the size, they can take up to an hour or more, I brush mine in oil and sprinkle with sea salt , and never wrap them, just straight on a baking tray. They are beautiful every time.

Half an hour is optimistic. I'd say 45 mins for a small one, an hour for a medium one - and anything from an hour to an hour and a half for a whopper!

I do the opposite to everyone else as I don't like crispy skins - I pierce mine all the way through a few times with a knife and then wrap in foil and put directly on the top shelf of the oven.

Zap in microwave for 5-10 minutes (depending on size) then crispen up in a very hot oven with salt and oil

Depending on the size - up to an hour and a half for a big one.
I push a metal skewer thorugh my spuds - it speeds up the cooking time

for a small one jsut skewer them , then 50 mins (min) in oven

for a big one 8- 10 mins (atleast) in microwave then skewer them and 45 mins (min) in oven - personally i don't bother with oil and salt - i don't think it needs them.

I usually buy whoppers and my wife and I have half each, they just seem better on the plate.

They take about 2 hours in the oven, if you are out all day, prick them with a sharp fork (I used the meat one) and make sure you go through the skin, but not deep into the white. That way they wont go brown. Leave in the oven with the timer set and then they are ready when you get home.

I hate crispy skins as well.

I tend to start them off in the microwave, 2 mins and then turn them over for another 2 mins (a bit longer if they're bigger) and them wrap them in foil and put them in the oven for about 20mins

^ This, you get exactly the same result.

I put a baked potato in the microwave for 8 minutes and then in the oven for about 47 minutes.

I prick them with a fork then microwave for 9 mins, turning over half-way through.

That's an accident waiting to happen. I'd never leave an oven on if I'm out.

That gave me a idea of what to have tomorrow (sunday) for dinner. i am staying home, I normally goes to a a friends place and She cooks me dinner, but not this week.
I can't be bothered to cook a roast, so baked spuds it will be, stick them in the halogen oven, they will not take long, but what will I have with them?

It depends what you've got in. Any sausages?

If you're going to go out to the supermarket, a small ham that you can cook in the oven at the same time is an option. I love ham, beans and a baked spud.

But you can serve anything with a baked potato; my favorite topping is chilli and coleslaw.

What do you think is going to happen to the oven?

Thats why some ovens have timers.. So they cook the food while you are not in the house!

Obviously leaving stuff on the hob is a different matter.
