Rome

If anyone missed this when it was shown before it is now being shown on TCM. On now.

This was a fantastic series, saw both seasons on blu ray, shame it never got a third season.

Would recommend it 100% to anyone who has not seen it

Deadwood from the start is also airing on TCM straight after Rome every day.

Oh I loved Rome. So many great characters! I've got both seasons on Bluray at home. I'd definitely reccomend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

One of the greatest TV series' ever made! It so deserved a 3rd season and beyond but, sadly, the budget just wasn't there and it had to be cut short.

They definitely should have continued Rome! Apparently, they hadn't calculated foreign DVD sales when evaluating it, and the large sales of that may have made them keep it.

Anyone know anything about the rumours of a film?

Best tv show ever made, in my opinion.

We were lucky to get a second series, really, but the creator had a plan for 5. When it was axed the second, third and fourth were all merged into one, which is why at times it seemed slightly rushed and the dates are off - but fantastic drama nevertheless. Everything about the series' was awesome really, the acting, the scripts, cinematography and even score.

Not sure what's happening about the film. Various members of the cast have said it's definitely been happening, but aside from that, there doesn't seem to be much news. Anyway, Doctor Who burnt down some of the set.

ETA: I seem to remember someone high up in HBO saying they made a mistake in cancelling it. They can say that again.

There are many reasons to love Rome, not least because it has one of my all time favourite lines: "She's Medusa the rag"

It seems that the first season of Rome has now ended on TCM. However, I only have 11 episodes recorded and as far as I can tell there should be 12. I'm just wondering if my TiVO box has cocked up the series link, or if anyone else has had the same issue?

Fantastic series.

Well worth seeing it on DVD/Blu-ray too, as you can get factual pop-ups while you watch (if you're a geek like me).

The commentaries with the historical consultant were very enjoyable too.

I agree with geordielady & Joooe. It's superb.

For some reason it completely passed me by on its original screenings, but I've watched S1 over the last month or so, and I'm about halfway through S2.

Great story, great script, great actors and great budget (which shows)!

Like "I Claudius"; it's spiced with the odd bit of sex and violence, but not gratuitously so (Like Spartacus was IMO with it's stupid CGI blood spatters every 5 minutes). There's enough political and family shenanigans going on to keep things ticking over nicely. It's just a shame that HBO bailed originally after S2 instead of giving it 5 seasons as the writers originally planned..

It was cancelled but only because of the costs involved in producing it. It does have an ending but when the end comes you are left wanting more, not because the ending is unsatisfactory but rather because it's so good.

In the series one of our heros dies but in real life he is still managing Everton.

I remember reading a while back that they were about to start shooting a Rome movie.

I wonderif anything came off it.

If anyone has read Simon Scarrow's Eagle books there is a proposal for them to be made into a series of Films/TV series (http://www.undertheeagle.co.uk/proposal.htm). Should be good for those who do not get there fix of Rome.

It has an ending of sorts. Without wanting to spoil anything for you, it's rounded off but there are one or two things that are pretty much left to the viewer to decide what actually happened.

Now that I am looking forward to - but that proposal has been going on for months. Basically for that series - think Sharpe but in with Romans instead of Green Jacket Rifleman - series of books started in Germany before moving on to England.

Been a few years since I've seen it but I do remember it wrapping up pretty well.
In fact if it had not been cancelled I would wonder where it would go. There would be some time between the ending of this series and the I, Cladius series but not sure how much story there is there historically. Obviously they could have dramatised something fictional.
